Will BitJazz shrink any file in half or just annimation files. I like the idea of this kind of codec for archiving client projects and being able to restore them quickly.

Yes,
But has anyone noticed that Itunes 6 requires QT version 7.0.3 to play back it’s content. Can anyone tell where apple’s bread is being buttered these days. We waited, what, 18months for an FCP upgrade and itunes has gone from version three to six like a lightning bolt. There is a new itunes once a weeka dn we still don’t have FCP 5.0 stuff resolved.

ah. all this talk about quality on te forums and now it will all come down to a 2×2 screen or some cable company will compress the stuff don to 50:1 so they can have a 500 channel universe. quality schmality. 🙂

I’d say it’s more in terms of solving workflow issues. I sort of feel the same way. It’s not HD, It’s not SD. It’s sort of a nothing format. I think it is bridge to the next big thing.

I was just changing the FCP settings. This way FCP thinks it is looking at a firewire deck, but you can be sending component HD via whatever codec you want in FCP. The HDV deck has no RS-422. The upcoming article might debunk a myth or two.

I did this successfully recently and reported in in an upcoming article here on the cow.I am fairly sure that I used the NTSC firewire for deck control and whatever capture preset you need to capture.

I will add that this file can then be rendered into any SD timeline/codec preset you set up in FCP and will look great.
