Read through any of thethread here in the last two weeks for a primer.
HD only records to the (very low capacity) P2 drives.
DV (NO DVCAM) to tape.Ita a DV camera with HD capabilities (limited recording to P2 (PCMCIA cards specially designed by Panasonic, NOt off the shelf).
You should search the archives and read through the MANY MANY posts that are already here.

Are you going camera direct in this workflow? I see how this would work like a Firestore but what is controlling the Hard Drive record, the HVX?
or
Is this just a P2 offloader solution? How can you be sure you have the data on the drive without a Laptop?

Also check the monitor loop for correct termination. If you switch to a HD image you will see ghosting if you have the KONA OP looped. Try this if you are looped. When you are in HD with KONA remove the Y cable that is looping and you will see that the ghosting disapears. It took me a while to figure out that it is a HD termination issue.

I like to strech one formateed title over the whole timeline and then as I playback the timline I use M to add markers on good cut points. Then I use the blade tool to cut up the title into various bits. I format the text in a word document with the same font and point size I am using (Helvetica or Verdana work well) and the I copy paste from word into each title.
Any way you slice it this is labour intensive.

INthe engery saver control panel insystem preferences there is a checkbox that state “put the harddrives to sleep when possible” unselect that box if the DV thing is bugging you. You are seeing the lag NOT BECAUSE OF sleeping drives. It is more because of the DV CODEC. remember codec is short for compress and decompress and the processor has to compress and decompress that codec on the fly all the time. so there will always be slight lag with dv material. Isee it on drives pulling 500MB/sec.
SD to DV.
Capture the D-Beta material using a DV easy setup. Whenn you are finished editing media manage the project with and uncompressed SD sequence and recapture it.You may need a Video card to capture or just have all of the D-beta TC duped to DV and capture those tapes. I’d get burnin on the dupes just to be safe.

with mpeg stream clip you can use APPLE KEY E and export to QT. Here you can set up a preset to go to any codec that QT supports. DV, DVCPRO, uncompressed, etc.
It is totally doable to DV. You might need QT pro however, which FCE does not support, but is well worth purchasing from Apple. (especially if you are going to be ripping all of that content for free 🙂

using option two means you will no longer need the white matte. It will save you one layer of video.

Do your capture scratch setting state. record audio and video to separate fiiles. This is what it sounds like to me.
Make sure this box is not selected keep the audio and video in the same clip. The other way creates a relationship in which the audio is in s separate file but can not pla without the reference to the video.
