works fine here, only highlighted track is affected, try un-installing the update, cleaning the registry and re-installing, or perhaps just boot Vegas while holding down ctrl+shift so it reverts to default settings, good luck.

got a question and some feedback
as for the thread opener, check your computer for update KB2670838 and if it is installed, uninstall it, hide it from auto-update and restart Windows. You can Google how this update can really mess your video performance with multimedia software.
and for my question, I remember I installed some codec pack on my home rig BEFORE installing Vegas, after installing Vegas… did it replace the codecs installed beforehand ? I tried removing the codec pack (K-Lite) and didn’t observe any differences, re-installed it and again no differences in rendering times or editing speed.

increased rendering times for that template are normal AFAIK

after some intensive testing the new Vegas 12 build coupled with the latest Nvidia drivers are indeed supporting 6XX GPUs acceleration for several video effects plugins such as GenArts’ Sapphire and native Sony video effects, also most latest versions of NewBlue plugins… so we’re getting there for 6XX cards owners, the one thing missing is encoding acceleration for mainconcept (mp4/x264) templates using CUDA…
worth noting that the latest build of NewBlue Titler Pro 2 v130145 runs quite stable and renders extremely fast on 6XX GPUs now compared to GTX 5XX series, well that’s all I can report after testing with a 660 Ti 3 GB 314.22 drivers and Vegas Pro 12 v563 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 SP1.

good specs there but ditch the GTX 6XX card for a cheap GTX 570 on ebay or similar, the 600 series is not supported in Sony Vegas yet, they’re basically very efficient and powerful for gaming but with a radical different CUDA architecture in return, breaking backwards compatibility with existing software. Of course a Quadro card is always the better choice but I’ve used both a top of the line and expensive Quadro card and a cheap GTX 570 GPU achieving similar rendering speeds / editing performance, provided your CPU is up to the task (i7 3770K is brilliant, I have a 3960X personally though),
-
to be honest Nvidia breaking CUDA backwards-compatibility with their 6XX cards has nothing to do with Sony, Vegas already supports a wide range of GPU for rendering acceleration. This one is up to Nvidia to fix, and they won’t, since the 6XX cards are gaming-oriented and intentionally crippled so they not compete with Quadro cards.
-
well at least it doesn’t crash now when rendering using a 6XX card, Vegas will use the GPU to somewhat accelerate previewing while ignoring it for speeding up rendering, don’t know if it was actually the 563 build or Nvidia latest drivers, so no more crashing but no GPU acceleration either. I’m sticking to my old Fermi card when “playing” with Vegas at home, not upgrading my workstation at my workplace though, you know, if it works…

thanks for the heads-up, downloaded and ready to install
reading through the changes I see they fixed the thumbnails bug and added a couple of Internet streaming templates, good, but no mention of improved GPU support for the Kepler cards, oh well, as I feared they will work with Vegas Pro 13 if we are lucky and provided Nvidia let Sony use their Kepler CUDA SDK, something they still are refusing… (they want to sell all those new Quadro cards).

computer -> uninstall or change a program -> see installed updates (left pane) -> windows updates
if you see KB2670838 there uninstall it and set Windows Update to “manual”, check for updates and when it shows again hide it until Microsoft fix it, it’s related to Internet Explorer 10 but messes with current video drivers.

March 23, 2013 at 7:25 pm in reply to: Another”Vegas Poltergeist Messing With Me” thread LOLlook for update KB2670838 if you’re in Windows 7, uninstall it as it causes a wide range of issues with DirectDraw / Direct3D, if that’s not your case then I’m puzzled as you, maybe your computer power-saving settings isn’t set to “maximum performace / always on”, mind you that if your PC is set to “balanced” or “power saving” sometimes it doesn’t work properly and throttles the CPU/RAM/PICe/GPU down in order to save power / energy when it’s not necessary.
