Vegas Pro 12 Lagging!!!
Posted by Douglas Wheeler on April 13, 2013 at 1:51 pmI have been using Vegas Pro 12 for about 6 months now to edit gaming commentary (outputting it at 1080p HD) it was working fine until recently when the preview started to lag terribly, I could (just) live with that. But more recently the render times shot up from 10 minutes for a 15 minute video to 16 HOURS!!!
Here are some basic specs:
6GB of RAM
Intel Core i5 Proscessor
Intel HD Graphics 4000
750 GB Hard DriveAlso I was recording the video in 4:3

April 14, 2013 at 12:09 pmYea, something must have changed about your computer. Did you install any codec-paks? These will substitute slower codecs for the fast ones that Vegas ships. You should never install any codec-paks on a video editing computer.

April 15, 2013 at 4:12 pmI have tried this (no improvement) but completely forgot I recently installed Simcity 2013, I don’t know if this will have compromised render speeds?

April 16, 2013 at 1:12 pmSounds like you might have enabled GPU acceleration. You might want to DISABLE it.

April 17, 2013 at 12:14 amgot a question and some feedback
as for the thread opener, check your computer for update KB2670838 and if it is installed, uninstall it, hide it from auto-update and restart Windows. You can Google how this update can really mess your video performance with multimedia software.
and for my question, I remember I installed some codec pack on my home rig BEFORE installing Vegas, after installing Vegas… did it replace the codecs installed beforehand ? I tried removing the codec pack (K-Lite) and didn’t observe any differences, re-installed it and again no differences in rendering times or editing speed.

April 19, 2013 at 2:13 pmSo I have been having a look, and it seems that when I installed Simcity 2013 my graphics card updated I don’t know if this makes a difference or not?

April 19, 2013 at 4:00 pmGraphics card drivers can certainly have an affect. Try disabling GPU acceleration in the Vegas properties and see if that changes anything.
