In the scenario I was in where there were shots with duplicate time code and overlapping time code if I check the box “Use Time Code Embedded in the Source Material” and then check the “Use reel numbers Embedded in The Source Material” does Resolve look first at time code and choose clips then reel names or should the box for time code be unchecked as there were duplicates but the reel names were all unique? Would resolve then bring in the right time code even though that box were left unchecked? Of course if all the material were correct up front this would not be a problem but as we all know that does not happen all the time. I am still stumped as to why when I did import that I had to resolve all the conflicts but the 8 and 10 frames clips were the wrong shots but did not give me the option of conflicts.

Thanks very much for the info, I will try that on Tuesday when I am in front of my system. One last quick question. I had red bars on top of some of my thumbnails which I have yet to figure out what they meant. I am almost sure it had something to do with the duplicate time code but was not a problem on render. If anyone could shed some light on this I would love to know exactly what those are.

I will give that a shot and see what happens. One question? I don’t have my system in front of me but when you narrow the name down a box comes up that says “Test” or something similar, how does the test box work when checking file names? Here is one event from my EDL which was Avid based. Would your previous post work with this?

In all my 30 years of doing this the one thing I have had to learn time and time again is that you would be surpised at how one simple little phone call to your client explaining what your up against and just seeing if between the both of you can come to a solution to meet both people’s needs. By trying to handle it by yourself sometimes you are putting yourself in a position where you might not be able to finish and you will not be able to grade it as good as you want because of the time.
99.9 percent of the time the clients are understanding and will either give you what you need to make it right (even at the cost of maybe rediting the show) or they can give you more time to maybe and I say maybe find a way to work with what you have. Now if the client is that other .1 percent well then you need to figure out if they are worth the cost and headache and maybe cut your losses. There are too many good clients out there to deal with those types anyway. -
Thanks to Mike Post’s reply that helped me to fix this issue.

Hello
Just so you know the original issue here was the settings for let’s say Alexa footage brought in to Resolve to be transcoded to MXFdnx 36 8bit then spit out to be sunk in AMC. Then delivered. Could you if possible send me your exact settings on the config page for the reel number issue and the exact setting you would use on the render page if possible? Once I know what these should be I think I will be fine. Right now the MXF I made is probably the wrong config and or wrong render settings are not showing up anywhere?? There in lies my problem. -
All of my files are yes in that structure. I will try this today. If I really don’t need an ALE that would help.

For what its worth when it does say during linking that the media is offline it plays as if there is a file moving and the TC is correct for the Video that does not show up??

I had not put them in the Avid folder 1 the first time. They were in their own folder because I was trying to keep the original file structure intact, but maybe that is the wrong way to look at this.
Thanks again for the help.
