In your output settings in Image Ready (file – output settings…), make sure you have “never” checked for the spacer cell option under slice options.

    Hope this helps!

Excellent, that helps a lot. We’ve got Avid FX on our Adrenalines, but haven’t had a chance to get into it, and I just downloaded a trial of Red to check it out and see if it was the same and would be something that we could run on a standalone graphics workstation.

    Cheers,

Good to know, especially the part about running as a stand-alone. We’ve got a couple of Adrenalines, but it would be a big benefit to be able to run Red on additional systems as well.

    Thanks!

There’s probably an easier way to do it, but you might look into multi pass rendering in Max. I’d tell you how to accomplish it, but I use Lightwave, and the particulars are sure to be different. Basically, though, render out a separate pass for your transparency, reflection, specularity, etc., then composite the separate sequences in AE. I agree, a good tutorial describing this process is sorely needed. Most of the 3d tuts you find are geared towards game graphics or creating special effects. It’s difficult to find broadcast/title design help for 3d. (At least it seems that way for LW, 3DS, and Maya, maybe not for C4D…)

Oh well. Thanks. I guess I’d just rather use the keyboard so I can name my clips, mark them and log them all at once.

I probably could get away without cropping in some instances, or just tweak the size of my SWF to compensate. The webpage most of our flash video is being encoded for has a white background.

Charlotte is a couple of hours from Fayetteville, but NC is generally a great place to be, easy to make a living, easy to get around, and easy to get away to the mountains or the beach for the weekend.

Cool, thanks for the help, Jon. That makes sense, although it would be nice if I didn’t have to crop every project I wanted to output to a streaming format. Also, I looked it up, and you’re right… the Avid ingests DV in its native format via firewire. I’m relatively new to Avid, so I’m curious now why I was told to ingest at 1:1. Anyway, thanks for the response.
