Just out of curiosity, what does a system like the one mentioned above cost for all the parts?

What I ended up doing was trying another VCR and it worked fine. Baffeling to me that the newer VCR wouldn’t work yet the 8 year old VCR did. Still though I would like to figure out exactly why this was happening. The world of digital video–you just gotta love it!!!

Make sure you’re using Progressive for the menus.
