    What I ended up doing was trying another VCR and it worked fine. Baffeling to me that the newer VCR wouldn’t work yet the 8 year old VCR did. Still though I would like to figure out exactly why this was happening. The world of digital video–you just gotta love it!!!

    Thanks Mike for the Bitrate Calculator. It looks like it’s pretty detailed and it’s much better than what I was using.

    I captured the video through a Canopus ADVC 110. The format is .avi

    Make sure you’re using Progressive for the menus.

    I have been using a firewire port hub for capturing from a digital camcorder and a Canopus box for about a year now and have had no problems.
