We talk hardware almost weekly.
Any system using Intel Xeon processors will yield best performance.

Why can’t you just edit them in their native format? Aren’t the files it spits out .mov files? I edit MOV files regularly with no issues.

That’s not how computers work. They’re not going to use all available memory just because it’s there. Just like your CPU and GPU aren’t going to run at 100% all the time. It only uses what is needed.

Steve is correct on this. If you’re a pro editor your system should not be set for auto updates, and probably not left online all the time. A Windows update isn’t going to improve your editing experience whatsoever.
Some, like myself, use our systems for other things so Windows updates are handled differently.

I highly doubt that both of your recording programs record at the same exact clock ‘speed’. This is why professionals that record audio from multiple devices use genlock.
Not sure what you can do except slice the secondary audio into separate ‘slices’ and move each section by a frame or two to sync them.

I’ve never had an issue with any Win7 updates, but many times (if not almost every time) an update can cause an issue with a particular hardware driver.

It basically comes down to one thing: money!!
If the system you originally specced (which will be an awesome system) is very close to your budget, then a Xeon system is probably out of reach (especially with a pro graphics card).
However– if you can snag that Xeon CPU in the link I gave for that sale price, well, that’s a huge WIN!Nothing wrong with what you originally wanted. It’s equivalent to a BMW M3 if we use cars as an example, where the Xeon gives you a Ferrari 458.

If both chips were same architecture, then yes more cores is better. However, these are very very different chips. It’s like comparing a naturally aspirated 8 cylinder engine vs. a twin-turbocharged V6. More cylinders doesn’t equate to more power since different architectures.

The more cores the better, but the price can get crazy. Keep in mind that a Xeon-ready motherboard will be more expensive than the better i7 mobos.
If I was buying one today, the Ivy Bridge Xeons are the way to go. Looks like NewEgg has a monster on sale right now:
