You are right Jeremy but some of got rid of the P2 store while we could still get something for it. It was fast becoming obsolete as a storage device but it did make a good formatting tool.

You can delete the contents on the Mac but it will show up unreadable in the camera. I’ve even tried emptying the contents out of each individual folder on the card and deleting them which technically leaves the file structure the same but it still is unreadable by the camera. The only way that I am aware of is to reformat in camera.

We have had a lot of success recording directly into the camera. We use a Shure FP33 and record to both channels with one about 3 db less to avoid clipping.

Did you copy over the lastclip.txt? This has the info that allows FCP to recognize the the data spans over both cards. You may also want to play the whole clip if FCP. The other clip will not show up. It adds the second half of the spanned clip to the first half automatically.

Thanks for the heads up. Good thing we carry our cameras on the plane instead of checking them.

Any retailer that sells the HVX-200 or P2 Store will have the batteries. I have had really good luck with the Lenmar LIP540 batteries. They are about $50 each. You should be able to find a Lenmar dealer on-line.

Drag the whole card into a folder on the hard drive. You want to make sure you have the “CONTENTS” folder as well as the “LAST CLIP.txt” file. I make it a habit of labeling the P2 cards which come up “NO NAME” once they are transfered to the hard drive.

Refer to the “P2 Work Flow and back up” thread posted a few below. It’s outlined really well there. The big key is to have the P2 cards backed up in multiple places (Raid 1) and make sure they are readable in FCP BEFORE you reformat the P2 card.

The Gitzo 1325 is a real nice lightweight set but it’s about $1800. I agree with the oats theory. You have to spend a little more to get decent sticks.
