Did you try nesting your clips? Select your clips in the timeline and under the sequence menu and select nest items. It creates a new sequence in the current sequence and puts the new sequence in your project window.

In FCP there are two presets. One for XDCAM HD which is 1440 x 1080 and the EXDCAM EX which is 1920 x 1080. We have both the EX3 and the XDCAM HD 330. I have shot for about a month with the EX3 and it is native 1920 x 1080 and looks great!

MPEG 2 for compressor. I finally got the DVD to work. I went back in FCP and put the 1080P timeline into a pro res hq 1080i timeline, re-exported, ran it through compressor and it worked.

Just installed and tested a project that we couldn’t burn in CS3 and it now works in CS4!!!!! There was a weird massage when I tried to use the exact same project in CS4, something about couldn’t use the video in the timeline. So I saved the project as, replaced the timeline with the same mv2 and ac3 and it worked! This was a very simple project with one menu and one timeline.

I used Media 100 for several years. It’s a good system, BUT how many Media 100 systems are there in use now? You said you want to do the rough cut and have some finish for you. With 1 million Final Cut users it will be much easier to find someone to help you finish with FCP. If you get some training in FCP you should be able to pick it up quickly. EX3 footage comes into FCP really.

We have shot 50-60 discs and have never seen any glitches.

I have had never been able to burn a blu-ray from Encore on a mac. We’ve had to use toast to get it to work. I have not pushed Blu-ray for our clients because of Encore. I hope CS4 work better on the mac.

Go with the EX3, it rocks! I can’t say anything about M100. Haven’t used it in 5 years. FCP 6.04 works great with the EX3. Import one hour of footage in 10 minutes. You will need back up for the EX3, we use Blu-ray.
