When I use the Sony log and transfer plugin I see the same timecode we shot in the field.
Does Cinemon behave the same way?
When you are speaking of TC breaks are you talking about within a clip or when we shoot TOD and breaks between clips?

I was very interested in Sony’s cinémon .mp4 plug-in until i read this issue below on the last page of the User Guide. It sounds like it resets the timecode which is a big deal for me. We shoot time of day and it helpful for me to know the time something was shot. I also like to rename my clips using the Log & Transfer.

Known Issues:
 Timecode breaks/discontinuous timecode are not supported by Final Cut Pro. Media files will import and play properly, but the timecode will increment from the first frame of the file regardless of the embedded timecode value.

Try using Encore to make a Bluray. If you do one thing Encore doesn’t like you will have to start the project from scratch to get it to work. I have to double the price of building Blurays in Encore to not lose my shirt when I quote a Bluray project. I won’t be going to any Adobe suite anytime soon with the experiences I have had with Encore!

Hi Jim, I don’t have any experience with the Westmere systems except I bought an ATI 5770 graphics card and added it to my 2.8 2008 OCTO and it started crashes every hour or so. Pulled the card and put back the stock card and everything was fine cutting XDCAM EX footage. Your issues could be related to the Westmere system but that is a wild guess on my part.

Hi John, It sounds like you have had a hard time. We can master to HDCAM with our AJA Lhe card. What format are you sending to the post houses? Avid DNxHD is not a common file format for FCP. You can install the AVID Codecs but it’s not the best route, it won’t playback with the Lhe card unless you render so an FCP friendly Codec.

John, I have been following Franks threads because it is nice to know what other edit systems can do. Your statement above is a hugh generalization about a small group of FCP editors. The opposite is much closer to fact in that FCP will on work natively with some codecs, so we as FCP editors need to understand codecs and what we can work with. When someone calls me with an existing FCP project that happens a lot!
My first question is what codec are you editing in?

Please don’t make unfounded generalizations because we edit on a mac. I would never do that about PC editors!

Color is much faster!

FCP list of steps:
Apply the CC filter
Double click on the clip to put it in the viewer
Select the CC tab
Click back in the timeline so you can see your changes
Now your ready to color correct

Color list of steps:
Send from FCP to Color
park over the clip you want to color correct
start color correcting

Now think about the FCP list for a hundred shots! That’s a lot of extra steps and time.

When is the last time you wiped your system hard drive and installed from scratch?
This can make a big difference. If you’re planning on going to FCS 3 now would be the time.
