It’s easy with Premiere but he says he doesn’t see that option – just filename.

This thread was a lifesaver!! I rented a JVC 200 and used the included hard disc recorder for a very long day shoot. When I transferred the files to my computer, there were a ton of 9 minute, 13 second clips from the hard drive – and the timecode re-started at zero for each clip!! I could not find a way in CS4 to display timecode that was equal to the timeline. The invisible clip is the answer!! Thanks!!

I use Premiere Pro to make my MPEG2 files – so if you do it that way too, make sure you’re using a 16×9 setting there. I import the MPEG2 files into Encore for authoring.

I don’t have that camera, but I have a SonyDSR-450 that allows for 24P. I use Premiere Pro 1.5, and I was told to get a true 24P timeline, I have to capture in the “advanced” 24P mode (I’m not sure what Panasonic calls it, but it’s 2-3-3-2 pulldown instead of 2-3) Try a test where you capture in each of those 2 modes (24P and 24P advanced) and then try importing to a new project.

On a related topic – have you tried to make a genuine 24P DVD with no pulldown? It looks like crap with my camera, and I suspect it will look bad with yours as well. Weird motion issues.

I really like Encore, but it took me a while to feel comfortable with it. If you know Photoshop pretty well, you’ll have less of a learning curve.

  • I have a Panasonic E95 standalone burner (with hard drive) and the only way I can copy the (finalized) discs that are created with it is by using DVD Shrink. I don’t believe that program is downloadable any more, though, due to copyright issues. Trying to copy with Nero would only give me the menu, and nothing else.

  • Awesome! That did the trick! The demos shows me it works, so I’ll order it!

that sounds like it could be one of your problems. If you have 9 clips, they are 9 timelines. When played back, there will be quite a pause between timelines. You probably don’t want a long gap between those 9 clips. It sounds like you should (instead) have one clip 100 min. long and add chapter points. You can use Premiere Pro to do the MPEG2 conversion for you as mentioned by the last guy. (File/Edit/Adobe Media Encoder.) I personally wouldn’t use such a high number for the max bitrate, but otherwise I agree with his numbers. I use Adobe Encore, but I admit it’s complicated.
