Having repeated the whole operation but this time importing the AVCHD using the “AVC-Intra 100” option,- everything worked! This is good news as I now have a workflow for 3D in which Avid copes better at the editing stage with 3D HD than does Sony Vegas: you can actually see what you are editing in the preview.

Thank you again for your help.

Thank you both for your comments: I will give this a go.

  • If this is only an element within a longer piece which is OK can you find a visual excuse for shrinking the soft frame – by placing the material within a simulated TV set, for example – as a smaller image can appear to have better resolution?

Hi Mike: thanks, you could well be right. I clearly haven’t yet thrown enough money at the problem..

I’m definitely using the Vegas DVDA template! It looks to me as though this is a bitrate issue,- but thanks for your help!

Thank you both for your responses.

Jeff: I below is an image of the DVD video files produced by DVDA.

Nigel: I too chose 31 for quality.

The clips seem to be locked because they contain an alpha channel. I’m new to Avid and don’t yet see how I can combine Left Graphic with RIght Graphic and then Left Matte with Right Matte: if I double-click the track in the timeline I see both elements but can’t divide the elements.
