March 5, 2008 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Text roll problems in RED 4.2.1

    Hi Scott,

I was able to reproduce your first bug in house and have a potential workaround for you. The problem seems to be related to using the render queue to render text rolls. Rendering using the export function (ctrl + M) worked for me for the first issue. i was also able to render in the host timeline without clipping the duration.

The second and third issues may be related to workflow. The header and footer values are set for each track in a title container. If you want to change the overall spacing you need to select all of the tracks and change the header/footer values. Sometimes the spacing gets thrown off if you add tracks or re-order tracks, but you can fix this by changing the Animation Type of the container to None and then back to Roll to force a recalculation of the spacing.

The light zoom worked fine for me when applied to track 1. Did you apply it above track 1 in the container or was it nested inside the shape track of track 1? In order for the light to only affect track 1 it must be placed inside track 1.

I hope this helps and if you have any more questions let myself or Peter know.

    Cheers,
    Dave

March 4, 2008 at 3:11 pm in reply to: Red Crashing halfway through

    Hi John,

What version of QuickTime are you using? There was a bug in version 7.4.0 that would cause crashes during render. If this is the case run the software update and you should be fine.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Dave

March 3, 2008 at 3:30 pm in reply to: Boris FX Trial

    John,

Vegas does not pass project information to the plugin so you need to supply that yourself. Once FX launches you’ll need to go to Edit>Project Settings and input the duration of the effect and size of the project you’re working in.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Dave

March 3, 2008 at 3:20 pm in reply to: Boris FX 9.2 and Vegas 8.0

    Hi Jay,

I’m sorry you’re not happy with the integration, that is purely a limitation of Sony’s plugin architecture. As for the extended integration, FX 9.2 supports Vegas version 8 whereas previous releases did not and I believe a couple of bug fixes.

If there is anything specific I can help you out with let me know.

    Thanks,
    Dave

February 27, 2008 at 1:32 pm in reply to: Exporting a cropped shape

    Hi Kieran,

Sorry, I thought this was fixed but it is still broken in the current release. We are aware of it and it will get taken care of.

In the mean time you can create a spline mask for the color shape and export that as a single frame. I just tested that and am certain it works.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Kieran,

Try downloading the RED 4.2.1 update. There was a cropping bug that was fixed in the update that sounds like what you’re experiencing.

    Cheers,
    Dave

February 13, 2008 at 9:48 pm in reply to: Boris BCC5 Plugin Problem

    Hi Chris,

I’ve got some bad news. BCC 5 for Final Cut Pro is not compatible with older versions of BCC. The reason being is that BCC 5 uses Apple’s FxPlug architecture whereas the older versions used the Adobe AE architecture.

That being said, I’d suggest downloading the BCC 5 for After Effects trial and installing into Final Cut Pro. You’ll have to choose Custom Universal install and place the plugs in:

    HardDrive/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins/

This is not a supported configuration and not recommended for use besides opening legacy timelines.

Let me know if this works out for you.

    Cheers,
    Dave

February 12, 2008 at 2:54 pm in reply to: Using Boris RED w/ Avid Xpress Pro?

    Hi Nick,

You haven’t done anything wrong. What you’re seeing is the AVX 2.0 version of RED. We ship both the AVX 1.5 and AVX 2.0 versions and give you the option of installing whichever you need.

There is little difference as far as you’re concerned which you use. AVX 2.0 gives you 16bit color depth support and advanced keyframing in Avid (not useful for RED). Besides that your experience won’t change. The Boris RED filter acts the same as the 1, 2, 4, and 6 input filters without having to choose.

If you prefer the the AVX 1.5 version of RED you can run the installer again, select Modify for your current install, and click the RED AVX 1.5 box without deselecting anything you’ve previously installed. Now the older style RED plugins will appear in Avid and if you want to use the AVX 2.0 version later you can promote the effect from the Avid effects control window.

    Cheers,
    Dave

February 8, 2008 at 7:37 pm in reply to: Rendering out a still image with Alpha Channel

    Hi Mike,

Masking in Boris products is typically done by creating a spline shape (separate track) in the shape you want to keep and dropping that entire track into the Mask track of the track you want to crop/cutout.

There is a slight shift in brightness when using imported media in Final Cut Pro and what you get when you import through Boris while a plug-in in Final Cut Pro and we are aware of it.

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Hi Mike,

I’m glad the update fixed your first problem.

The second issue is definitely a bug and thanks for reporting it. For now I suggest using our masking tools to crop the image.

There’s a tutorial on masking in our help documentation if you’re unfamiliar with how it works in Graffiti and I’m more than happy to help as well.

    Cheers,
    Dave
