    Hey Zach,

You’d see a noticeable difference in performance upgrading from a GeForce 6800 to a Quadro FX 4000. The biggest differences are in viewport performance and particle effects. Granted, the 6800 is the least powerful card supported so any upgrade will be noticeable.

If you’re looking to upgrade I’d go with a newer GeForce (8000 series or newer). The Quadros are phenomenal cards but if you don’t have other software that requires one save the money.

  • I’ve never seen this. Are you using Graffiti as a composition clip or a filter applied to media? You can also try deleting the effect and applying it again in of the off chance that there was something Premiere didn’t like about the effect when you created it.

    Thanks,
    Dave

  • The Enter key (over next to the num pad) will render everything inside of your work area. You can selectively render the Boris effects one by one or render your entire timeline.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi Howard,

Did you render your effect before you tried to encode? I didn’t have a problem with PP CS3 and Graffiti.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Fred,

The Lens flare filter isn’t included with this version of Avid FX. If you want the BCC Lens Flare as well as the other OpenGL filters (Glare, Glint, Glitter,…) you can get a copy BCC for After Effects and install them into Avid FX.

    Hi Jean-Francois,

It may be the export settings you’re using. Not all compressors support alpha. I recommend using the QuickTime Animation codec and be sure the Depth is set to Millions of Colors +.

May 27, 2008 at 8:23 pm in reply to: How do I make an Environment Map for BLUE?

    Hi John,

Your camera settings in Vue should be set to 90 degrees for field of view and a square format like you already have. Since the environment doesn’t respond to lights the edges and corners are invisible if the map is seamless.

The maps we created were done with the ATI cube map utility.
    https://ati.amd.com/developer/cubemapgen/index.html

This application lets you import, assemble, and preview environment maps. I’m fairly certain that Vue (at least Infinite) allows you to export cube cross environment maps which would be the best way to go if you use the ATI utility.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Wyatt,

The problem is that for some reason FCP is telling Boris that the image doesn’t have alpha. This is real easy to fix.

    1. enter Boris FX
    2. select V1 and click the disclosure triangle to expose Face track
    3. select the Face and in the Controls window change Key from No Alpha to Straight Alpha

After that it should behave as expected.

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Hi Tom,

Check to see if you have BorisFX in your /Library/Applications Support folder.

    Thanks,
    Dave
