OpenFiler could indeed be used as an iSCSI target storage device
The free SNS GlobalSAN could be used to connect to it
All you would need then is suitable SAN software eg from SNS or Tiger

However, even with a lot of time available you would probably not get a reliable working system, even if your team includes ninja networking gurus, eg https://www.snsforums.com/index.php?showtopic=221

If you have a real need for a shared storage system, try to find the budget to get it done by professionals, preferably in your local area.

What format are you capturing from Walter?

We are using HDCAM – perhaps the fact that it records at 1440×1080 and upscales to 1920 on playback may be affecting things?

It seems that this problem is quite consistent when the clip is imported into a machine other than the one that digitized it, so it could be something not working right in quicktime.

Will try to downgrade Quicktime from the 7.6 the machine shipped with if I can’t get it fixed another way

    Best Regards

April 18, 2009 at 10:42 am in reply to: Kona 3 with new MacPro crash

We have a similar problem with 3 new MacPro’s on a clients SAN installation

All have Radeon GFX cards & Apple Fibre Channel cards

Introducing the FC card into the system apparently causes the machine to hang on boot with 6.0.3 or 6.0.2 Kona drivers

I will check the status of the board firmware when I am on site on Monday

We have the machines working with the 6.0.1 NDD diver, is there any difference between the firmware included with this driver and the later releases?

Can’t find anything on AJA’s website about compatibility with the current MacPro hardware – there clearly are some problems!

    Hi Gordon

This process is part of the report process of Apple Remote Desktop, a number of people have found it a problem with SAN systems and Time Machine as well.

I don’t know why Apple made it clearer about what this process does and how to turn it off, the best information I have found is at https://devnevyn.livejournal.com/3558.html be sure to read the full thread!

Anyone else had problems with FCP and build_hd_index ?

  • Replacing the DVW-2000 digibeta solved the problem – there may be some compatibility issues with later firmware revisions on this machine

  • One of my clients has a similar problem with a Kona LHe editing uncompressed SD to DigiBeta.

When editing to tape the output will randomly change, suddenly reversing the field order

This only happens during edit to tape – anyone else seen this type of problem?

Your problem may be with the tablet driver – are you using the Genius OS X driver?

Genius Pensketch tablets only had Windows drivers until just recently:
    https://www.dynamicgraphics.com/dgm/Article/28714

There is a Mac OS X driver for download on their main website:
    https://preview.tinyurl.com/28lzjo

It is a V1.0 release, so there may well be a few bugs…
If you are using this driver send them some User Feedback 🙂

I would be very interested to know how you get on, I’m considering a load of these large tablets for a VFX lab I’m setting up. It has to work on Mac Photoshop though!
