Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy build_hd_index

  • Posted by Gordon Gurley on January 29, 2008 at 10:41 pm

Everytime I get a dropped frame warning, I look into activity monitor and it shows “build_hd_index” running and using about 30% of my cpu. And the system disk is chattering away. Obviously, it would be best if this process didn’t occur while I’m “Editing to tape”. But yet it does.

Does anyone know why this happens and if there is a way to turn it off?

I understand that this should happen “at night” when I’m supposed to be at home asleep. It usually happens around 2pm.

    Hi Gordon

This process is part of the report process of Apple Remote Desktop, a number of people have found it a problem with SAN systems and Time Machine as well.

I don’t know why Apple made it clearer about what this process does and how to turn it off, the best information I have found is at https://devnevyn.livejournal.com/3558.html be sure to read the full thread!

Anyone else had problems with FCP and build_hd_index ?
