Fixed it. Just had to re-install Quicktime.
Weird though.

Yeah, I figured it out. I was using the export “audio to aiff” setting but figured out the export via Quicktime setting. Thanks.
The composer wants a VHS tape with burn and dialogue CH1 and Timecode on CH2. Thats why I had to mono the output of the stereo dialogue tracks. I know it may seem old-fashioned but there are still lots of people using their old OS9 Pro-tools systems with chase-lock to a VHS deck.
Even stranger, I had to dub off a 3/4″ for an out-of-town ADR session the other day!!! The dubbing house I use junked their 3/4″ about 6 months ago. I didn’t even know where I could buy a blank tape, but I found an old tape in a storage box and borrowed an old BVU-800 that a friend had stored in an attic. Wow did that bring back some old memories. Chilling.

Iomega??? I’ve got 3 Iomega Jaz Drives and about 30 cartridges if anyone is interested. They’ve been sitiing on a shelf for about 7 years. I stopped sending the defective cartridges away to Iomega a while back – don’t know if they still have their replacement policy in place. We used them to transfer animation files around for a series a while back and I’ve never had so much stress in all my life from technology.

Yeah mineare not quite identical and I have the same settings. I just tweaked one of them manually to get them as close as possible. I always thought it was the card and connector that made the difference.

I run two 24″ Dell 2405FPW monitors side by side – they are great and were a real good deal. I just sit about 3 1/2 feet to 4 feet back and make the text size a bit bigger and you can cut away ’til the cows come home.
I don’t lose my curser so much, but I do have two mouses running – a blue tooth one and a nice scrolling supermouse – as well as a bluetooth keyboard with all the colored FCP keys.
I’ve cut on every type of system out there and this one is the best so far and it’s also “my very own”. I love it.

October 21, 2005 at 6:08 pm in reply to: FCP 4.5 projects & backwards-compatability w/ FCP 5? Or… is it safe?I never had any problems when I did exactly what you are proposing to do… and YES, it is a good idea to backup your FCP project files anyways.
Better safe than sorry, in event a worst case scenario happens – your hard drive dies or something.

If you have permission why would they not provide a suitable videotape master?
Other than that you may want to capture off the video out of a DVD player instead.

The R&D and production costs of X-Box video games is what makes them cost $50… not the price of the media.
If you truly believe your X-Box analogy, us in the film business would be spending millions of dollars for a little bit of vinyl and plastic.

Further to my previous post it does appears that the ‘Date Created’ column in the FCP3 project I received just consists of four dashes (—-) in the directory window, so something must have happened in transport.

It appears that it may be a corrupt project file. Double clicking simply launches the basic FCP5 app with no project data. Option clicking and opening with FCP4.5 does the same.
The project file was originally created by a person who logged a bunch of tapes on their own system for me. It must have been corrupted when they saved it to a flash drive to transport over to my edit suite. I guess I can just get them to create a batch capture list for me instead.
Thanks
