May 3, 2011 at 8:43 pm in reply to: Quite nice article summing up whats new in FCP X – looks good to meMy big thing with this new magnetic timeline is the fact that there are no tracks. We need to be very diligent with our track assignments. Tracks coming and going as needed like Randy said really freaks me out. As well, how are you going to patch tracks? Say you have a clip in the now browser window and you want to put it on v2, for say broll, is fcpx now so intelligent that if you are parked over a clip on v1 it know to place it on v2? if so, great. But still, tracks moving up and down is no good for me.
If I need sync to stay on a1,a2,a3 and a4, music,fx on tracks 6,7,8,9, this worries me. I am sure this feature can be turned off, if Randy just mentioned that I am sure a lot of folks would be at ease.
What about marking in and outs? the range selection that was shown, well, stinks. imovie selection? no way. Randy never dropped anything into the timeline, or even marked in and outs. Everything was precision editor or dragging a selection with the mouse.
I hope to god they haven’t moved everything to drag and drop. That is so not efficient. My hope would be that fcpx knows where to put a clip based on tracks being used already.
Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the reply. The assistants have grouped it this way. Too late. I guess I will just have to use timecode to reference back to seq a). Thanks.

November 23, 2009 at 4:37 pm in reply to: merged clips/multiclip workflow advice neededyou might be able to link the items in the timeline then from there drag them to your bin. It will merge them for you. Exporting self contained movies will work only if the media you are using is the highest quality. You are not able to reconform. It doesn’t maintain any metadata.

September 24, 2009 at 11:59 am in reply to: merged clips/multiclip workflow advice neededJeremy, Very cool presentation. So basically once everything is lined up in a sequence you export each individual track. Then reimport it. Select those new import clips and make a multiclip form those selected? Is this correct. What a great workflow. I guess due to us having timecode things should be bang on in terms of offset. We shot on ex3 editing native xdcam ex 35 mbs vbr. So we export reference movies of each track. Do these exports retain all the necessary metadata tape name timecode. Is the xdcam ex codec broadcast quality. Its a cooking show for food network? We also have 18 hours of footage. Will this take forever to export?

Good idea Andy. I will try it out. My best bet might be to just load the clip i need into the viewer and go from there.
Thanks all.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I would like to cue from tanscripts with timecode
notes. If there is another way other than
to matchframe that would be great. I guess the other way to do then is to put
All related debriefs into a folder instead
of putting them into a sequence. Then just open the appropriate clip and punch in the timecode from there. It’s a different workflow but again different program structure. Final cut is folder driven avid is bin and sequence structured.dedit

The tc is jammed. The problem though is that the tc hasn’t been accurate so I can’t make multiclip from tc I have to do it from in point. Should we do big chunks opposed to many smaller ones. Also. I tried creating make multiclip sequence and it stacks the multicilps in a timeline but they aren’t all on v1. some on v1 some v2 some v3. What I have been doing is use pluraleyes to sync camera a,b,c in a sequence. It then creates a multiclip. I then cut then multiclip into a sequence. I then cut my dual audio into that. And cut from there. Does this seem right? D

I was just wondering if there are any drift issues regarding the timecode. I just found that dealing with so many clips is a little teadious. What is your recommendation on it. Is it better to have 5 clips to sync with the dual audio or a number of clips? I am trying to develop a workflow. This is my first real multicam edit so any workflow advice would be welcome.

September 19, 2009 at 2:05 am in reply to: multicam workflow advice needed.. is Mark Raudonis out there…Please help…I have been testing out pluraleyes today. Very cool. I drop my video from camera a on v1 camera b on v2
hit sync and in a few seconds I not only have it all lined up but a multiclip made from it. What I then do is cut that multiclip into a sequence grab my external audio line up the timecodes cut that into the sequence and voila. Wow. Pluraleyes rocks. Bruce thanks a mint.Darryl
