I don’t have a HDSLR yet. I plan to get a T2i as soon as I can find someone who has them in stock.

I record a lot of interviews, and I could not imagine using a HDSLR for that – mostly because of audio, but now, because of this issue. I plan to use mine for pretty b-roll only.

It will be fun to see what the near future holds for these cameras. Maybe some of the overheating is the electromagnet used to hold the mirror up? Let’s just modify the cams and remove the mirror. 🙂

For what it’s worth, I have two EX1 cameras that are now about 4 months old. We have a total of six 16 gig Transcend cards, and 4 32 gig Transcend cards, all are RED. We have had almost no problems. An occasional restore error, but a restore does the trick and everything is fine.

To clear the cards, we do not reformat them. We simply delete all the clips using the camera.

Thanks everyone for all this feedback. This really helps. I never expected the switch to HD to have such a steep learning curve. SD was so much easier!

I’ve made the decision to shoot interlaced. I like the look better. Movements are smoother and my style is to use a bit of slow motion, and that looks much better interlaced.

    Thanks again,

Just 3 weeks ago, I had the same problem you are having. I upgraded to CS4, and my system choked. I too have limited funds, but I make my living with my system, so I really need it to work.

The specs of the system you are considering sure looks like it will work without problems, but I needed to know for sure. I spent about twice the price, and my system is rock solid, flawless, editing 1080 footage. It had 2tb raid video storage. I purchased from https://www.sharbor.com (a national company, but only about 10 miles from me so I had no shipping charges). Yes, more expensive, but they work and you have support.

My problem has also been fixed. By NOT using the Sony Clip Browser to transfer the clips from the card to the computer, but using Windows. I thought I was NOT to use Windows to move the files, but since doing it, Premiere has been flawless.

Opinions are really going to vary on this one.

Personally, I want my work to appear as the human eye sees things. This means motion blur with a slow shutter speed (1/60th). That is all I ever shoot in.

I also like nice slow motion. That means shooting in 60i instead of 30p.

July 28, 2009 at 2:44 pm in reply to: ClipBrowser? Are you sure?

UPDATE: Premiere seems to be working fine with files that are copied off the cards using Windows. With clips copied using the clip browser, Premiere is very unhappy.

    I do have CRC on.

Under USER CONFIGURATION, I do NOT have “convert in MXF for copying EX to a normal folder” checked. What is this?

With the clip browser, I simply drag my files from the card (upper window) to a folder on my hard drive (lower window).

July 27, 2009 at 6:37 pm in reply to: Export movie WITHOUT encoding.

I still have not figured out how to do this – and this feature is HUGE to me. I would reguarly export a movie that had filters/etc to use elsewhere on the timeline, or apply more filters.

Even with footage that is real-time (no red bar over it), it takes FOREVER to export a clip that only took seconds with CS3.

I’m having much of the same problem, WITHOUT a Matrox card. On Friday I took delivery of a new CS4 system. I have about 100 gig of XDCam footage, broken into about 350 clips. For the first few minutes of editing, everything is fine. Then, Premiere freezes for several minutes, only to respond again. If you change the project panel to “view thumbnails”, then scroll the panel to find a clip, all thumbnails turn gray, and the computer needs to be restarted.

My machine should be fast enough. This is what I purchased:

    SC733TQ-645B SATA Mid-Tower Chassis
    ZALN5600004 Riptide Accessory Package
    ASUN5450005 P6T Deluxe V2
    Intel® Core™ i7-920 Processor 2.66GHz
    OCZN5180001 DDR3 1600 6GB
WESN5160010 500GB Caviar Black 7200rpm 32MB Cache SATA Hard Drive
    2 WESN5160009 1000GB Caviar Black 7200rpm 32MB Cache SATA Hard Drive
    PION5410026 Pioneer BDR-203 Blu-Ray DVD Drive
    DIAN5300007 Radeon HD4870 1024MB PCIe
    MSON0900006 Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit

    Any suggestions?
