Has this been resolved? What is the fix?

Thank you. That is helpful. But what setting would I use so the export is the same format as the source footage, which is XDCam?
Sorry if I seem so ignorant. After 20 years of working with SD, HD has quite the learning curve.

July 1, 2009 at 4:40 pm in reply to: Anyone know the exact CS4 equivalent of CS3’s “Export Movie” option that has been removed?Just got CS4 today…
Why does it seem to take “forever” (okay, 18 minutes) to export a 5 minute clip, when my project is DV AVI clips and my export is the same?
In CS3, it only took a few seconds.

No need to spend a ton on the laptop if your only using it to clean off your cards at the hotel. For the first time, this summer I will be overseas on my first broadcast shoot (which meant upgrading from PD150’s to EX1’s. I purchased this to dump footage:
This unit comes with an express card slot. One of the first things I did was upgrade the hard drive with a 500 gig instead of the 160. I will also be bringing a few external hard drives for backup. I will ship one copy of the footage back to the states, the other copy I’ll keep with me.
Now, this tiny laptop does have its advantages and disadvantages. First, I love the size, and the battery lasts 3.5 hours. It will not weigh me down having this tiny thing in a backpack. The disadvantage is the small screen, and processing speed. You will NOT have smooth playback of your video on it – if you wanted to review footage at the hotel.
Just another option…

Thanks for all this information guys. Actually, everything you all mentioned was what I was thinking. They must have specs for a reason, but I’m also sure it is more of a “guideline”. Funny Home Video’s has proven that even 3rd generation VHS can be “broadcast quality”. 🙂
The best advice I think is to use common sense. If it is lit well, I can get away with something smaller. This shoot will take me on international travels, so I really want to avoid full-size cameras.
Thanks again.

I recently stopped using on-camera lighting for receptions. Look at this: http://www.receptionlight.com. It will allow you to use your Merlin.
But, it is less than 100 watts. You will have to gain up your camera, but it will still keep the mood of the room.

This has not been resolved. I still have the same issue, only now with Boris FX 9.2.
I found on the Boris web site a download called BorisFX9.1 OGL OFF. I’m not sure if this is for that problem, or if it works with 9.2. I could not find much info about it on the site.

Hi Peter,
Our project is standard defination, from mini-DV tapes. We are not using a video card, so just capturing with Premiere, Microsoft DV AVI files.
We have a segment that is about 90 seconds long, and includes about 20 different clips. When adding a Boris FX to the clip, and then choosing the BCC Glow filter, everything will render fine UNTIL trying to render a disolve between two clips which have the Boris BCC Glow applied. EVERYTIME, it will crash Permiere.
Instead of using a disolve transition, we tried to simply stack the clips and use the opacity “rubber bands”, but this did not help. Where two clips with the filter overlap, we crash.
On a different project, we had the same problem, but the crashes were more intermittent. Sometimes, we could render a transition without a crash, but rarely more than 1 in a row. We simply rendered 1 at a time and saved the project between crashes.
