The CS5.5 trial I downloaded didn’t have all the codecs either. I know because I have the full version of CS5 and it works with MTS files fine. I thought I would give 5.5 a try but it won’t work.

Why give us a trial version that won’t import any kind of clip that you may be working with? My buddy is using the Design Standard trial and it doesn’t have any kind of handcuffs on it that we’ve seen. Kind of hard to evaluate something if you can’t use it.

Well, that’s what we thought, but they are scared to death of “Macs” because they don’t service them.

I was just going to say that Greg. Ripple delete helps me close a gap without getting things out of sync.

I had the same problem with the Lenovo website; horrible.

Video editing on a laptop has never been ideal in my opinion. But, having said that, I got a Lenovo IdeaPad V570 to do some simple editing on. It has a Core i5 & 6GB RAM. Handles Premiere and AE CS5, though it does struggle with HD footage, I can get the work done on it. It cost me $650 at Best Buy.

Yeah, the more I look into it I am going to have to go with 2 separate cameras. That is what I had originally planned to keep doing but I thought I would check out what’s out there anyway.

I think the VX2000 has spoiled me for color reproduction because I have tried to use a little 3-chip model (the chips were only 1/6″) and it just couldn’t do it for me. It might have been fine, if I hadn’t been getting footage from the VX1000/2000 for the last 10 years!

Thanks for all the replies. It is looking more like the FX-7 than the PD-170, since they are the same price, but my mind is still not made up yet. I am also going to give the Canon models a serious look (and hopefully test drive) too. My choices are getting clearer, and for that I thank you all.

I am considering the PD-170 since it is a more robust camera with better audio features & DVCam capability. The main reason is that I have a notion that my VX2000 is on its last leg so I need to shop around. Instead of going with a new VX2100 I figure I should take a step up, but nothing is set in stone, I’m just doing research at this point.

April 11, 2007 at 12:38 pm in reply to: Capturing MiniDV Footage for Backup?

This is my personal tape collection that I’ve been shooting since 1997. Since there has been debate over the longevity of MiniDV tapes I thought it prudent to make backups.

I have considered just copying the tapes to tape & still may do so.

The other reason for the drive backup plan is so that I can readily use my footage in projects.
