I’m very familiar with Premiere and the rendering capabilities. But, still, the force render and the things described in Tom’s link don’t always work for me. This workaround has been the only thing that allows me to get smooth playback. Otherwise I wouldn’t have posted it. I also think that I am not alone in my playback woes. 🙂

And yes, George, I think this situation does reveal a problem with Premiere and how it handles some footage. Maybe Adobe can integrate a solution in future updates. I just thought I would share what is working for me.

    George,

You may want to see my post on playback woes I posted just a few minutes ago. I am running a Mac Pro with CS5.5 and have had similar issues.

    Randy,

Make sure you have selected the option “Stablize, Crop, Autoscale” under the Borders section.

Thanks for all your input! Lesson learned; take the extra time before I shoot to get it right on the set. 🙂

When you click on the output module (in the Render tab) you can either edit the presets there, or create your own template. Then when you go into the Render tab click the little triangle by the output module (that defaults to Lossless) and you can pick your new template there. Nice and easy!

Yeah… I was afraid of that. Don’t have time to do rotoscoping. I will have to look into that brush when I get some time though. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

I should have added that the monitor is sometimes obscured by the talent, which is the only tricky part, otherwise I’d just make a simple static mask.

The shot is locked off so there is no camera movement. Yes I have used Mocha.

How do you put the Quadro in slave mode? I’ve got the same setup of cards in my Mac Pro and I’m trying to get the most out of this setup.

I hear you Daniel. I think my “screamer” comment was a little misleading. I understood that this system was not going to be a juggernaut in terms of performance, I just expected more for all the money that was spent. Does that make sense?

I knew going into this that the Xeon quad was nowhere near as fast as the top core i7 processors. My primary goal with this system was stability and it has been pretty solid in that regard. I just couldn’t see spending $10k on an top of the line 8 or 12 core Mac Pro system.

Also, if I pull the Radeon card I lose one of my cinema displays since the Quadro only has one display port. As I understand it there are DVI to display port adapters but many people are not happy with them.
