MTS files in Premiere Pro
I am using Premiere Pro CS5 to edit native.mts files. When I import the files it says incorrect format. However they do import and I can edit them in Premiere. They are all unrendered however and very slow to work with. Can someone help me out with a good workflow. Of course I could transcode the files but this is time consuming to and I nned to purchase 3rd party software to do that. I am running Premiere Pro on an iMAC. Is it because my system is too slow to deal with these highly compressed files? Does CS 5.5 do a better job.

Thanks Todd, I didn’t realize the free trial came with all the necessary codecs. CS5 trial didn’t have them.

The CS5.5 trial I downloaded didn’t have all the codecs either. I know because I have the full version of CS5 and it works with MTS files fine. I thought I would give 5.5 a try but it won’t work.
Why give us a trial version that won’t import any kind of clip that you may be working with? My buddy is using the Design Standard trial and it doesn’t have any kind of handcuffs on it that we’ve seen. Kind of hard to evaluate something if you can’t use it.

There is no limitation on the Premiere Pro CS5.5 trial version.
If the codecs aren’t working for you, that’s a bug. In the rare instances where I’ve seen that occur, it has been fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling.
