Yep, that’s what it was.
I read the Boris trial info wrong.
I thought it said 30 days. It says 14 days.
I though I had a few more days before I had to call and order.
I was deep in the offline and didn’t have time.

Now I just went through the order process and come to find out
you don’t get an unlock key immediately. It takes a day or so it looks like.
This really is weird. If they have a download option,
why don’t I have the unlock code as soon as they get my money?
This is totally my fault of course, for not reading EVERY LITTLE THING
on their web site about unlock codes only given out the next day.
But really….. I’ve been downloading software for years and always
receive the serial number and can use the software immediately.

From various people’s ideas above I tried this:
Using the Ambrosia’s SnapsProX, and was doing what you said about the largest size my
computer monitor would show, (my test was at 1400 by 900 or so, on my Macbook Pro)
I recorded a sequence to a quicktime movie, imported into FCP,
and then I enlarged it with the motion tab, put a flicker filter on it, moved it around
with key frames, and it looks very good. I’m sure Kel, I could get it to look better
with some of your ideas about Photoshop etc. But bottom line is,
using Ambrosia’s SnapsProX I can move my mouse around on the picture if I want
and do moves around the web page with FCP or some over app, and then put the whole thing
into the blank screen on my over the shoulder shot, using the BCC DVE or some other plugin
and dissolve to it full screen too at the end. If I only wanted to use a still, then GRAB on a very large
computer monitor screen would also work probably. I just needed to get pixel level up from the
SD level to 3 or 4 times that, then I can enlarge it and move it around.

This will work now. This is completely different from trying to get something by
shooting the computer monitor screen.

To clarify;

Yes, shooting an LCD, over the shoulder from a 4 or 5 feet away looks great.
(it’s a Dell 20 inch). That part is fine. Also being able to place video in that
screen in post is also something I know how to do. But if you shoot that LCD
from a few inches, and you move around on it, you get terrible pixilations
and moire to beat the band. It is horrible video.

And a still of the web page is not what I want. I want to move around
on the page with the camera, or simulate that.

The first suggestion, about using Ambrosia’s SnapsProX, I will look into it.

And the one about shooting green screen,
the over the shoulder shot, with the LCD in it, is perfectly fine.
I would have to put the web video in the created background the same as
putting it in the actual shot, so I don’t gain anything shooting green.

Finally, I’m not moving the over the shoulder shot or trying to track the
key in the LCD monitor with any kind of camera move. I’ll cut to the web
video full screen to do the moves around the web page.

Any additional ideas are welcome.
I see this effect on shows and spots all the time and have never tried to do it myself.
I think many times it was shot with film, but I don’t see any reason why
I can’t make it look as good with video.

As far as Ultimatte goes, I agree it makes the best key.
(I’ve been using hardware Ulimattes since the 80s.)
And I did go quite deep into it. The eye dropper is just a
starting point. The 411 filter is very effective on my DV shots too.

The BCC keyer looks nice but since playing around with it
and my subjects, it’s not as clean as the Ultimatte,
but I can’t keep Ultimatte, because in a month I need something
that works Universal. Right now on my G5 it’s great
but it doesn’t make any since to spend $1200 now
and then another $800 in a month or so.

I took a look at DV Matte and maybe it’s just me,
but I don’t get a clean edge with it, not like
the Ultimatte Advantedge software. But Hey, that’s just
one man’s opinion.

Still Confused.
The version of TItle 3D loaded into my Macbook Pro (Intel) is version 2.1.
and is Universal.
On the Boris site, it says it’s 1.1. It is from 2002. It is not Universal.
How will this work in my Intel install of FCP 5.1.2?

I guess I was under the mistaken impression that Calligraphy and Title 3D
were different products. Who would have thought you would have a
software product, critical to your edit system, that has two different names.
If you ask for either name in the FCP help users manual, you get nothing
for either name. This makes sense why?

As far as going to the Boris site and trying a re install from there,
I will definitely try that. I don’t like having to use a different user account
just to run FCP since the crossgrade upgrade.

For some of us, it doesn’t do that, and previous sequences with Title 3D titles
will not work, thus my new user “fix”. Just because it worked for you,
and I’m happy it did for most people, doesn’t mean those of us it did not work for
did something wrong. There is probably some configuration situation,
either previous to the install or after it, that is common to us that it
did not work for, but I can’t figure out what that is.

This has happened to quite a few people after they used the “crossgrade”
to go from 5.0.4 to 5.1 and 5.1.2.
I went through exactly what you describe. No one here had a solution.

On a lark I made a new user account, logged in and then opened FCP.
Lo and behold, now FCP sees Title 3D.
Of course you now have to make sure your project file folder
has permissions for the new user as well as any media files.
But other than that, it’s been OK with the new user account.

It’s lousy of Apple not to issue a workaround for this or
make an update to fix it.

Same thing happened to me.
What I did was create a new user account and open FCP
in that account. Low and behold, there was Title 3D again.
Have no idea why.
Of course if you do this you need to change the permissions
on your project files if you had them in your other user account.
Overall a bit of a pain to do all this, but like you, I needed it to work
and no one here or at Apple had any idea how to fix it.
