Try deleting all your present render files and have FCP
re render everything. If you’ve been working on this project for a while
you need to clear out the old render files. This is not unusual.
Just go into your render folder and trash all the files there.

for video files? This is good? How?

You guys are making it much more difficult than it needs to be.
Just put the files on your media drive and import. Why all the fuss to
make it similar to AVID which COPIES the files and DOUBLES the space
requirements. Somebody mentioned iTunes as a good example?
iTunes music files, one 5 minute song takes up 6 MBs maybe,
is quite different from one video clip that takes up maybe 2 gigs.

As an editor it’s your job to follow the files. Media Management is
part of your job. AVID just adds to the waist line. You still have to know
where your files are. Make it simple. Your backups and archives will be much easier.

Yeah, like Jerry said, the only reason AVID does what it does with the file is
it’s having to change it to AVID’s format. Since your files are already quicktime
FCP doesn’t have to do anything to them, much less double the space on your
drives for the same file, which is what AVID is doing.

It becomes second nature after awhile to put whatever file you have imported,
graphics or whatever, into a folder on your Media drive, then import to FCP
from there. I don’t put all my files into a scratch FCP file. What I do is have
an FCP Media folder, a graphics folder, and audio folder all on my RAID.
Each of those folders has a separate folder per project. It makes it real easy to
keep track and also do backups to one firewire drive per project.

What are the delay issues, if any, dealing with monitoring KONA 3 digital audio
through a converter into the 1402? Or do people generally just use the RCA
outputs into the 1402 for monitoring?

And going from a BetaSP deck, through a converter to SDI video and audio into the KONA 3? Is there a known number of frames the timecode will be off between the tape and the resulting SDI converted signal?

The iO HD is designed to work with 800 firewire ports and does not support
uncompressed HD, but handles the new ProRes 422 from Apple. It’s a nice device
but it’s not the same as the KONA 3 and/or the Multibridge Extreme or Eclipse.
You are correct about the price differences however. They are not that big a deal.
I was wrong there was a grand difference. I now see dealers selling the KONA 3
with a breakout box for 3 grand. It all comes down to which features you want.

Gotcha. I guess I over reacted.

We are about to go with either AJA or BM and from what I could tell
at the show, they do the same thing but one is a grand cheaper.
So I’m looking for answers.

I don’t think this forum should be about companies or representatives
for companies telling us when we can and can’t speak.

Is this a known problem with the KONA boards or isn’t it?
Those of us about to spend our money with either AJA or Blackmagic
to do the exact same job don’t think this is a ridiculous question to ask if
others are having this problem. I’d read repeatedly that AJA boards have
audio issues with playback. Either they do or they don’t or AJA knows
about it and is working on it. What exactly is the story?
You telling people not to speak up is bad for this forum, in my opinion.
