First off, You really need to give up the idea of outputing any HD project as non compressed, the file for a 10 minute HD non compressed project would probably end up being like 50 to 60 gigs and most likely be unplayable.

I would use the output preset of “HDTV 720p 24” with the format being MPEG2.

Remember, all HD is “Widescreen” 16:9.

I use MPEG2 on all my HD stuff and it is beautifull.

Try those setting and let us know what happens.

There is one technique you can do easily in After Effects if you have it, and that would be to create an adjustment layer, then use the ellipse tool and make a circle around the womans face. Then use the brightness and curves to lighten, be sure to feather slightly. If she’s moving you’d have to keyframe the position points.

You might be able to do something similar to this in Premeire pro by duplicating the clip, create new title, use ellipse tool around face, set to “Track Matte” effect on video, then in that effect direct it to the proper footage and adjust.

The simple truth though is that if the face is too dark with not enough data then theres really not much you can do.

Naw, it’s not the media player. It’s been my experience that sometimes after rendering out, the effect is less intense than desired. I would just go back into AE and bump the effect parameters up more so it looks more intense than you really want it.

After that just rerender and output and see what you’ve got.

I’m not sure why this happens but I have definitly experienced it.

In my opinion, if you’re calling you’re project a “movie” it should always be Progressive.

Progressive is what gives a video more of a “Movie look”, preferably shot at 24fps, 30fps works pretty good too though.

Unless you think your movie will ever run on TV I would just make it progressive (Might be too late for this projest, not sure).

If you just want to put it on a dvd for viewing, I use the HDTV 1080p preset with an MPEG2 format, the file is relatively small and it looks great on dvd. All my internet stuff is also progressive.

    Hope this helps.

April 11, 2010 at 9:01 pm in reply to: How Do I Export AVCHD Footage in a Loss-less format?

    I don’t think its possible.

You would need a NASA computer to edit in true lossless non compressed HD footage. You’re footage should be MPEG2 or MT2, but editing anything HD and non compressed is probably not possible, the files are simply too huge.

Unless you mean you have HD MPEG2 footage now and you want to export it and bring it back with out any loss, I’m not sure you can do that either cause once you export it and bring it back then export again you will lose some clarity.

    Two things,

    1. Set your playback quality to “Draft” not “Best”, it will still look awesome since it’s HD.

    2. When I use Lossless HD footage it always plays better if I do anything to the footage that requires me to render it, I usually Right click over the clip then select “Field Options” then “anti Flicker” then render all. Or any other effect or CC that makes you render the footage.

Let me know if this helps, good luck.

March 7, 2010 at 5:45 pm in reply to: how to change”interpret footage” defaults

If you’re using HD then the frame rate is chosen when you set up the “new project settings”, but I don’t think you have that option with Standard Def, only “Wide” or “Standard” dimentions option if I recall.

  • Yeah, that’s what I suspected, just wanted to make sure I didn’t overlook some important parameters.

Oh BTW Dave, you helped me with some Keylight technique a while back and it came out really good, took 3rd in the contest. Here’s the final output,

    Thanks Dave.

Yeah, my guess is that it’s the low amount of Ram, 2 gigs would work better but 4 to 8 would be optimal. I have 4 Gigs of ram and it works fine but I am going to add 2 more.
