Lightening a darkened face
I have a piece of footage filmed at a wedding. The bride’s face is very dark when walking up the aisle in the church. I have used a plug in to add a flash light type fill in but this doesn’t really do much to improve the darkened face. Playing with brightness only leaves the background looking bleaches out. Is there anything I can do with this?

There is one technique you can do easily in After Effects if you have it, and that would be to create an adjustment layer, then use the ellipse tool and make a circle around the womans face. Then use the brightness and curves to lighten, be sure to feather slightly. If she’s moving you’d have to keyframe the position points.
You might be able to do something similar to this in Premeire pro by duplicating the clip, create new title, use ellipse tool around face, set to “Track Matte” effect on video, then in that effect direct it to the proper footage and adjust.
The simple truth though is that if the face is too dark with not enough data then theres really not much you can do.

I would typically use Colorista for this…with an oval shaped mask.
Keep in mind the rest of the image probably needs some correction too if your face adjustment is going to look like it fits…

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I should have said that the clip is a few seconds long and is the bride walking up the aisle not just her face so it means correcting the darkness over her whole body not just the face.
