if you have QT pro, you can try to open the file, go to the properties select your sound track and disable the track you dont want to hear.

did you try using a stroke set to all masks… stroke sequentially…reveal orig image and then animate the start, end with a large brush size?
depending on your shapes that mat work

depends what ya need to do.
particular is much more basic plugin (that can produce some very nice results) while particle illusion is a full blown particle app that will allow for more flexibility

with the numbers effect (listed under effect>text) you can generate numbers, or timecode at 24fps if that helps

when you “deinterlace in PS” i believe you are throwing away half the frame that you need.
It sounds like you interlaced footage that you should deinterlace in AE, then take those frames (110 of them) in to PS. then bring them back in to AE

whats your comps dimensions?
make sure its 720×486 or i dont think it will work

dont forget that while you might have 10bit uncompressed footage, the camera is recording to a compressed format.
also, from my experience, some cameras seem to be worse than others when it comes the artifacting in the footage. guess it might depend on how many times it was rented out…
