Posted by Steve Forde on May 10, 2006 at 4:44 am

Just wanted to provide a quick post to let you know that we have officially announced GridIron Nucleo Pro. After a stellar debut at NAB 2006 in Las Vegas, we have updated our website to give you a video technology preview of what Nucleo Pro is made of.

    Check out: https://www.gridironsoftware.com/NucleoPro/Default.asp?Page=NucleoPro_Tech_Preview

There is also alot more information on the site about what Nucleo Pro could do for your workflow.

Check out: https://www.gridironsoftware.com for more details.

Lastly, we are taking pre-orders of Nucleo Pro at a $200 discount until it ships. Nucleo Pro includes Nucleo, which you can get an immediate license for while waiting for Nucleo Pro – expected to ship early summer.

Thanks again to all on the COW for the continued support, and through your feedback, helping us design what we think will be a fantastic addition to your AE workflow.

This looks absolutely fantastic. In fact, this just seems to be the way things should have been set up in AE to begin with… Hopefully Adobe realizes that and will embed Nucleo Pro in AE 8.0 🙂

One question: You emphasized how all the background action does not impact performance while you work, which is surely a key feature. Does this only apply in a multi-cpu setting? I have a single 3.2GHz P4 with HT, so will Nucleo Pro utilize the virtual “extra CPU” for the background jobs, or does it simply activate a low-priority process that doesn’t interfere with other processes?

Anyway thanks for the heads up. If I can use Nucleo Pro on my machine, I think you got yourself a customer…

Nucleo Pro will run on that machine. A couple things to keep in mind since Nucleo Pro will only have a single CPU with HT logical CPU to work with. I wouldn’t expect any huge savings in time for renders and previews in terms of raw computation (as in the currently shipping Nucleo). However, the workflow enhancements (render while working) in Nucleo Pro should net you savings in time and/or better comps.

Also, even though it is a single CPU with HT – put as much RAM in there as possible. Win XP can take a max of 4GB, and would be the best investment to get the most bang for your buck with Nucleo Pro on that system.

Thanks Steve, that helped a lot. I see a lot of value in background preview preparation and background renders.

I must admit it’s not easy to commit to purchasing without ever trying it out, but I’ll try to get over it 🙂

Ya – unfortunately, your system will not really benefit too much from Nucleo. I think for many of our new users that are going right to the Nucleo Pro pre-order, getting the currently shipping Nucleo in the meantime has helped get over the usual nervousness of pre-ordering. This isn’t really the case in your situation.

(Although we did do testing with a setup similar to yours with 4GB of RAM and saw an average of about 10% performance gain with Nucleo)

In short though – my team is working round the clock on Nucleo Pro. We got a huge sense of pride when users reported Nucleo working exactly as advertised, and feel confident that we’re going to hit that again with Pro.

At the end of the day, our primary goal is to not let down anyone who has invested in us.

great program…. man this is tempting

Funny thing about history, it is such a great teacher but has so few students.

Well Im very curious to know if their is any development in the works that will see a similar plug in for Premiere Pro2. I mean that whole background rendering and commit to disk would be a godsend to the Ppro workflow and on a dual dual core system could mean amlost everything you do is full quality realtime all the time (or close enough to it)

Man if I was Adobe I would be throwing huge gobs of money at Gridiron to integrate this into as many of their applications as required.

So Steve anything you can share with us regarding a Ppro solution?

I wish I could share something – but, have to give the usual frustrating (for both of us) software provider response….no comment. I will say this though – have heard an awful lot of users like you request it.

LOL – thanks Steve, glad Im not the only one. Can you say, just hypothetically, would it be a workable idea? Like would a similar plug in with some of the features of Nucleo Pro be possable for an editor workflow within Premiere Pro (or any editing application for that matter)?

I guess we will just have to wait and hope.
