Try right clicking in the track header and add Opacity envelope. doulble click the blue line at the top of the video event before you want the fade to begin to add a point then again where you want it completely faded out then drag the second point to the bottom of the video event. Im not sure about Platinum but try moving the high threshold all the way to the left and move the low threshold to the right until it looks right. Play with these two faders until it works. The chromakeyer in Vegas is not that good, no spill supression. If your keying DV footage and Platinum has the chroma blur pluggin, add that first in the pluggin chain and set the blur to med. OK, I have tested Vegas Pro 8 with a Presonus Firepod. Vegas by default puts a gate, EQ and compressor on every audio channel. I armed 8 tracks, deleted all effects from the 8 tracks and got the latency at 3ms without glitching. I added a Sony compressor to all 8 channels and had to set the latency to 5ms to get clean audio. So you can see where this is going. I tested this on a HP zd8000 3.4 dual core with the wifi disabled. The more tracks you monitor live, effects you add, the speed of your computer and the interface and drivers all have a bearing on the performance you recieve.
By the way, I have searched for other people using a computer for live processing and your the second person I’ve found trying this. It’s about time. I’d love to see how someone does with a 8 core machine and a good interface. Hope this helps, Danny Hays -
Vegas can record many tracks at once. I do what your saying with Cakewalk Sonar and a Presonus firepod. Using the ASIO drivers, I can set the latency as low as 2 miliseconds but the more tracks you do live the more processing it takes and you will eventually have to raise the latency to keep it from glitching, drop outs ect. I’m only using two live chanels but I use alot of pluggins in each track and a compressor and reverb in the master channel. If you can get away with just a few precessor frendly effects, I could use mare channels. I have never used Vegas in this way but I’ll look into it when I get home and post my findings for you. FYI, 2 miliseconds is what some of the new digital consoles have and is almost un-noticable. there are some “Real time” audio interfaces that have effects but your limited to the hardware based effects in the interface.FYI, if your looking to mix a full band or more than 4 channels with effects live then you will probably need a hardware based DSP card. Vegas supports adding CC to Streaming Windows Media Video and from a script. I believe thats for Web use and the TV station won’t use it. I do use hardware based video overlay devices that can chase smpte or midi time code but I don’t know what the TV station will use. Danny

I’ve done several CC videos for Universal Orlando and just use text generator. I learned a lesson I’ll pass on to you and use Microsoft Word or a word program that has spell and grammer check, then copy and paste. There are some voice regognition apps that can convert audio to text, even MS word if you take the time to do the lessons that train the app to convert your voice. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

Oh yea, I see what you mean. Also transitions do only apply to video events. I just drag one of the event edges over to do what you want. But if you have alot of clips and want it automatic, I’m sure there’s a script or one can be made for this. I don’t know if any other Vegas leaders are monitoring this thread so why don’t you start another thread inquiring about such a script. There’s several guys at the top of the page that know alot about scripts and could help you. Also post it in the normal Sony Vegas forum as this is not basic. Danny Hays
