Here’s a TM700 native clip.

Download it and look at the quality of this video. It is 1080 60p .mts so without a fast machine it may stutter, try Media player classic. but you can still see the quality. Plus Vegas Pro 9 and 10, with custom project settings and render settings to allow for the 60p can edit and render to 1080 or 720 60p .wmv .MP4 and .mov. Even though 1080 60p isn’t part of the BluRay spec yet, some Panasonic BR players will play them. Anyone with a better quality video shot with a 1080i HDV camera, please post it for us to see. I really dislike interlaced video, and can stay progressive throughout my workflow.

Take a look at the HDC-TM700. Under $800.00. AVCHD, no HDV compresion, 4.2.2 color pace and the best picture around. People are shelving their EX1s for this camera. YouTube and Vimeo the TM700 and check it out. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

Stabilize only works with one clip at a time, but it does it fast. Besides you may have different levels of shake on each clip, where you would change the stabilize parameters. Or you could render them all to a new track and stabilize that clip. Danny Hays

With video 48k is the best choice since that’s what camera audio is as well as DVD audio.

I’m not knocking the smoothness of editing HDV, and yes the color corrector does slow down my preview speed with the native 1080 60p. Yes I said 60p!, but only recently have computers been able to smoothly edit HDV and not long before that, Vegas couldn’t give you good preview framerate at best, full with any format. HDV format used to be the beast to edit, remember? I’m used to Vegas and don’t need full framerate preview to edit. It’s all up to your priorities, and video quality is mine. You can build an i7 930 6 gig ram and buy the TM700 for less than the A1 or Z1. I payed about 1700.00 for my A1 and it’s gone up since then too.
I built my i7 for about $1,100. Just letting you know your options.

I use a computer monitor that can be calibrated for exact color and an 32″ Samsung HDTV, since that’s what most people will be viewinwing my videos on, not necessarly Samsung but it had the best pic at the time.

Lee, Is there a reason you don’t want to work with AVCHD? I have the Sony HVR-A1 as well as the Panasonic HDC-TM700, and I probably won’t use the Sony again unless I need a second camera, the TM700 is so far superior. The TM700 has 32 gig internal storage, enough for 2 hours and 40 min of 1080 60p where all tapes are just above one hour. No more “Remove cassette” warnings. My old Cannon GL1 was doing that, cleaned and sold it quick. Vegas Pro 10 handles the native .mts and the m2ts when using the supplied Panasonic HD Writer software with ease. i7 920 6 gig ram Win 7 64 bit. Danny Hays

Take a look at the Panasonic HDC-TM700. It shoots 1080 60p and has the best picture I’ve ever seen. People are shelving their EX1’s 6 grand, for this $769.00 camera. Youtube it and see. Danny Hays

My cameras component out is straight from the imager, but if I capture to tape, then it’s already HDV and you may as well use firewire. You can see the difference, connect via component or HDMI to your HDTV and firewire and run VLC in live mode to another input on the same HDTV, then switch the input sources on the HDTV from the component to the firewire (live through VLC) and you will be able to see a big difference if your camera can be captured from the imager and bypass the HDV compression and the 4.2.0 color space and capture MJPEG via the intensity straight from the imager.
