You can def do it. There may be some other programs that you could use to track this kind of motion more accurately (a picture being replaced in a frame) — Mocha, After Effects, Motion are some of those programs — but it can also be done in FCP’s motion tab by changing the size and position of the overlayed media (put it in Video track 2 and the original footage in Video track 1).

Try to convert in MPEG Streamclip. That will often do the job.

This is very possible with FCP, but do not understand exactly what you are trying to accomplish.

not sure what you mean by “logging film” as this can mean a few different things, but if you are referring to scrubbing through the timeline…you can activate/deactivate the scrubbing feature by going to “View” on the top menu bar and then down to “Audio Scrubbing”.

you’re out of luck, pal. no quick way to do it. over time you begin to know all of the transitions/filters/etc…but starting out you’ve got to make your best guess based on the name. it’s also not bad to try out a lot of different ones…you may find something you like you weren’t necessarily looking for. other than that, you could read the manual…but that would take a ton more time.
