your old ATI card will work fine if you put it in your new machine… I just did this with 4 machines in our office. I bought 4 new workstations and gave them to our lead editors… but had issues with new ATI HD 2600 XT cards and FCPs defocus plugin. It would give us Graphic Card errors in FCP when we went to render out a sequence. Now I’m just researching if I should buy the ATI 3780 or go with what I know to work well the ATI 1900s… I’m hoping that the 3780 would be faster the 1900… I need to buy 4 of them.

Right on Dave… that is what I needed to know… I will just make sure that my Editors don’t try to open the same project file at the same time…. or it’s off with their hands… Not really I could probably go to jail for something like that.

    Thanx a million

Hey Jan thanx for the info. I do a lot of compositing with camera moves. I used to have a quadro card a few years back, but didn’t know if it still made a difference. I was really hoping to hear from someone who has this newer card from apple.

I have done a few searches across the forum and didn’t seem to find any solid answers… or details as to why some one may have purchased one, or the success that they may have found wile using it.

Thanx a gain Jan for your input… I think I’m going to buy one

Hey brad… Video Copilot’s Designer Sound FX…. best thing you can buy for $100. We produce a few shows for ESPN and this is all we use for them. He also has a few good tutorials to go with it. It’s pretty inspiring if you do a lot of cutting to the beat or song transitions. It would be nice if he had a a bunch musical stings.. but it is great for the money.

Thanks for the input, but I moved the two layers up a video track off of track one and it didn’t work. The overlays work fine on our other machines. They are all the same exact setup. I’m working in 1080. My the video that we use is ether ProRess 422(HQ) or XDCAM HD. The graphics are all “Apple Animation, 1920 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions+” We pay a company big money to make these. I have tried using the ProRess as my sequence setting and Uncompressed 8bit and 10bit. Like I said it’s great on everyone else’s machine…. Just seems almost like a hit or miss on my machine. I have even trashed my preferences.. If all else fails we just render my stuff off on another machine in the office. And the clips are set to Black for the alpha. I can see though the alpha before I render.

    thanks again for everyones help.

We are using SanMP. “www.studionetworksolutions.com”. It works good as long as you know it’s limitations. If you have machine just shut off wile still connected to one of the raids in Read/Write permissions. It usually takes about about hour to recover Read/Write permissions to that raid. But besides those kind of things it’s great.

Everyone pulls from 4 xServe Raids, and 3 Seagate 750gig drives striped as one small raid on each work station for local storage… (Final Cut Pro Documents) We don’t have any playback issues when rolling off to tape in HD. So I’m not worried about drive speed.

Yeah I’ve spoke with them on the phone, they say that there product doesn’t support SDI connections. I that I’m going to have to spent a bunch of money on what ever I get. I’m just hoping for a simple solution….
