March 7, 2014 at 10:14 pm in reply to: Metasan or Sanamp or Stornxt…Advice please…

Built a system 6 1/2 years ago with SanMP. Realized the limitations of the Volume Level Locking and the file system on the raid, and bailed to MetaSan.

MetaSan is great! About a dozen machines 4x Large infotrend arrays, with 10 xSreve Raids system running strong for the last 6. Only had one issue about 4 years ago and MetaSan remoted in and fixed it in about an hour and we have not had a problem sense. We have 0 IT staff in our building and still feel no need to hire one.

We deliver about 12 series year to 3 different networks.

    Hope this helps!

Kevin, Thanks for the fast reply!

I updated my cuda driver… And it did nothing…

I changed my render setting to the mercury playback engine to the software only… did nothing to help…

Then I pulled a video layer out of the mix and the fade up worked. When I have more then one adjustment layer in the stack, no matter the stack order the opacity doesn’t apply at varying levels. Only 0% or 100%. My guess would be a bug.

Yeah we are pretty pumped about workgroup! We are planning on have a couple of interns digitize content from the last 15 years and keeping the proxies online for search.

Now if they would add Nexidia’s phrasefind to catdv I would be in heaven!

Just read your post again… This is great! We are using pro on a single machine, but just bought workgroup this week and plan to start setting it up next week.

I’m trying to keep my storage space down. I go from 28mbps to 1.5gbpm… I would rather keep all of our content in an original file format for future use, and I don’t want to have duplicated content. Originals and transcode for online…. Avid supports the native mts files as AMA, I would think that if it’s not now, that catdv will do the same at some point.
The other issue I have with transcoding is keeping all of the original metadata, like gps location for search reasons.

Thanks for the input on the workflow though!

No not directly. You have to transcode it. I use rewrote but it’s very chuggy in QuickTime. The catdv site says that I need to use xuggle to load mts files, and it works… I’m on slow 3G on the road so I can’t get a clip to upload to an amazon or Dropbox.

I hope to find a hotspot and I could upload a clip

No, they are the mts stream files and I’m trying to create proxies from them so I can work offline on logging content.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Juan Salvo is right, the only way to make it auto start stop with a sony F3 over SDI is to set the camera to Rec Run for TC and set the shuttle to “When SDI Timecode Runs”. Then to punch record, then stop it.

After that the shuttle runs like a champ!
