You could also offer your free editing services to budding filmmakers at a local college or tech school. Find someone who wants to make an independent film but doesn’t know how to edit and you can help each other learn. My first FCP job was editing a film for a friend who wrote, shot and directed but didn’t have the time to edit it. Helped me make the jump from Avid to FCP.

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. Have you tried restarting the app, and restarting the computer?

You could also try switching to another input and back. Sometimes that gooses the USB mic connection to work.

From the apple site:
here’s a printable pdf with a lot of them. (Hope the owner doesn’t mind my sharing; it looks like an Apple doc).

Good idea, using the keyboard. It’ll make you at least twice as fast…

“You can also copy one clip and then paste attributes to the rest. “
That’s the method I use. Right click copy the clip that has the attributes that you want, then select all of the other clips, right click and select “copy attributes”. This opens a dialog that lets you choose which attributes you want to paste. Very cool. And, you can save them as a favorite. Also very cool…

Sounds like you’re on the right track. Be a little more specific, please. When you say “Exported to ProRes” did you export using compressor? Or using quicktime conversion? What are your sequence settings? Are you using FC7? FC6?
It sounds like a gamma issue, which can be addressed in several places. It differs slightly from FC7 (FCS3) to FC6 (FCS2). There are settings in your export dialog which will affect your gamma levels. I have to have FC open in front of me to remember, but if you lay out your sequnce and project settings, and how you’re exporting it, maybe we can help.

Several hours of that were because I forgot to reset the switcher for a pre-read edit.

Yes. We found out too late that we weren’t gaining anything by using HQ – with the exception of some RED 2k material that we round-tripped to Color. Again, the project went on too long, and involved way too much footage to re-capture. I’m anxious to see if it happens again with the Standard codec.
My boss says that currently the ball is in AJA’s court; we’ve done what trouble shooting we can, and all fingers point to the AJA. I’ll pass along the specifics of the issues you’re having. We had it on 2 machines mainly, neither of which are the latest or greatest. But it sounds like it could be the interface between the Kona and the Mac.
Sounds like you need to return that one.

Myron (the other editor on this project) just reminded me that we switched our playback only to 8 bit (playing back the HQ media) and that helped. He also said:
“With the AJA 7.1 driver I’d make sure to NOT be in the default 64bit mode. We downgraded to 32bit which helped a little. Also switching to 8bit video output sometimes helps. I’ll try to think of more.”
So, that’s what we did in terms of reverting the drivers.
Here’s some info on the “green flashes”:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1063066#1063082
This is a thread that was specifically related to XDCAM and the green flashes and I cite another thread in this one. Honestly, I can’t remember which crashes reported the AJA plug-in, and which ones reported “quit unexpectedly”.
The project is over now, so we’er hoping to have a chance to do some actual troubleshooting.
