I’ve been a serious final cut user for about 5 years but outside of jkl spacebar command 8 and a few others I’ve never been much a keyboard guy. But lately I’ve been trying to learn new ones. One that I’ve searched high and low for and I’m beginning to believe doesn’t exist is a way to switch between the browser, viewer, canvas and timeline. Does anyone know?

    Viewer is Cmd-1.
    Canvas is Cmd-2.
    Timeline is Cmd-3.
    Browser is Cmd-4.
    Effects is Cmd-5.
From the Timeline Q will take you to the Viewer and Q will toggle the Canvas and Viewer. Doesn’t work from the Browser.

    All the best,

    Tom

    From the apple site:

    https://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/usermanual/index.html#chapter=A%26section=0%26tasks=true

here’s a printable pdf with a lot of them. (Hope the owner doesn’t mind my sharing; it looks like an Apple doc).

Good idea, using the keyboard. It’ll make you at least twice as fast…

The default shortcuts in FCP are terrible. It makes me wonder if they even consulted any editors when designating them.

Go to Tools > Keyboard Layout > Save Keyboard Layout and save as your name or something (Amir’s Keyboard).

Then go to Tools > Keyboard Layout > Customize (opt+H). Unlock the keyboard (lower left icon), and reconfigure to your liking.

I’ve noticed a lot of the important functions are buried in multi-key operators, while less used items are just a single click. Go figure.
