    Thanks Mark. Will check out

  • THANKS Sam. I really appreciate all that. If you’re ever in Sydney I’ll buy you a beer!

Did you compare your result to my final frame? Just wondering how it faired and if you’re matt choking looked better with the spears etc.

    Cheers

  • Thanks for all the responses. Good to hear everyone is shocked by the lighting. Makes my grumbling feel justified!

I have actually created the shadows in the way you described Aharon. Whilst using the existing ones may look more believeable Sam, the footage is actually part of a greater scene with other shots also casting shadows from a particular light source

    A few questions:

    – Sam with your multiple KEYLIGHTS do you use the one footage layer and multiple Keylights or multiple Footage layers keylighted then track matted? If you got a better result than my QT I’d love to see what settings you used if possible

    – Do you guys use the AE Matt Choker? It’s sometimes great, sometimes not. All you need sometimes is to simply smooth off the edge of the key to lose the aliasing but the Matt choker will sometimes need too much of the image choked to do this. Anything else I should look at?

Thanks again for all the help guys!

  • HI Aharon

Have checked outy his tute which is great…as are most of yours that I’ve seen. Does he have an advanced KEYLIGHT tute in that series?…will have a look.

Have gone back and forth through the manual as well but can’t seem to get a result much better than the example I posted. Everything I seem to do [like reducing the screen strength so I have more room to play with in the SCREEN MATT seetings] just seems to send me back to where I was.

I have a number of these to do in a short time and am worried it might be all roto.

Tony I have used a separate key for the shields which seemed to help. Thanks for having a look. I haven’t had many nights in bed before 3am for weeks now so your help is much appreciated!

  • The quicktime shows my first attempt. The PSD file has 3 high rez tiffs [before and after] in layers. Let me know what you think.

You don’t know the half of it! There’s also the great idea of dollying and tilting without any marks for 3d tracking…yeah, why not….
Fix it in the post hey?

Any other ideas on the shadows?

I’m trying to pull long drawn out shadows from the bluescreen but am thinking perhaps shorter [high noon] might be better. That would mean I could cross both sides of the Z axis ie: shadow fore and rear of the subject.

    Thanks for all the help.

Thanks Justin. That’s pretty much the same as the meshing. However it gets tricky when the subject is moving.
