Kaspar,
Thanks for the suggestion. It worked. The ATTO card must have slowed the Decklink HD card down. Not it is working no problem.

January 25, 2006 at 2:51 pm in reply to: Suggestions on client camera for HVX200 doc project – HDV consumer Sony or DVX100?If she has a budget of $3000 I would get the FX1, the consumer version of the Z1. Better optics and 3 chips vs. single chip. If she doesn’t need the XLR inputs then the FX1 is a great camera for this though I would stick with one HD format if possible.
You could use an HDV-HDSDI converter to edit the footage as DVCPRO HD in post.

This happens every time new hardware comes out.
The bottom line is this… can you make money with the equipment that you bought? If not then why did you buy such a computer?
Having bought one of the first G5’s when they came out, I wouldn’t buy a Rev 1 machine from now on. I will let them work out the bugs first.
Make money with what you have and then don’t ever buy before, Macworld in January, NAB in April, Mac Dev Conf in June and the usual update in Sept/October. Doesn’t leave much time left in the year, but at least you won’t be made when your new purchase is out of date by the next week.

The HVX 200 has all of these.
The ND filter has 2 levels. The zebra pattern level is set by the user.

Ed,
Great point about travel!!! I used to travel with a Sony DSR-570 and a Sachtler tripod all around the world. I paid a lot of money in extra baggage charges.
Now I travel with a Sony Z1 (yes I know what forum this is, I am talking about size) as a carry on with my laptop bag. I then use an REI hard bottom duffle bag with wheels as my only check in. I can fit the Miller Solo DV tripod in there as well as enough clothes and extras for 2 weeks of travel.
I still get great images from the field and my back is thankful and my wallet is heavier from not having to pay extra baggage charges.
Every time I go some place new, who ever is picking me up at the airport keeps looking around for the rest of my gear. I have to keep telling them that I travel light.
I usually work a 16 hour day and I can still raise my arms above my head at the end of the day.
Don’t even get me started on getting through customs with a small camera compared to the big ones. After 9/11 things changed for those of us who travel for work. The new generation of small cameras makes the work more fun and enjoyable. Even if the cameras could look a little better, though nothing was ever more ugly than the JVC 300 mini dv camera that came out a few years ago. The HVX 200 doesn’t have anything over on it when it comes to looks!!!

Noah,
I looked at B&H and they have chargers for Panasonic GCRD and GCAD batteries. Any idea which one is right?
Thanks,

Noah,
Thanks!!!
Guess I will have to do without the camera AC adapter, but I can live without that since I don’t use the camera as a deck.

I saw one at DV Expo East. It was great. Awesome price for what you get. Image quality was very good as well. Comes with all the connections that you would need standard. No upgrade cards needed like the Sony unit does.
The Panasonic tech guys were just raving about it. Like it was a brand new baby or something.
