  • Can’t turn off Decklink HD downconversion

Posted by Daniel Weber on February 8, 2006 at 4:00 am

I have a problem with my Decklink HD card.

I use it in a Dual 2.5 G5 with FCP 5.0.4 and Decklink drivers 5.4. OS is 10.4.4.

I have been using this system for a while and not had a problem with it. I mainly capture HDV via firewire and then use the HD card to monitor via a HDLink to a Dell 24″ LCD. I also use the card to export SD masters for broadcast. So far all has worked great.

End of day yesterday I created an SD 8 bit compressed project to do a little bit of color work. When I was finished I closed the project and went home.

Today I fired up the machine and load up an HDV project that I had been working on. Now the Decklink HD card will only output an SD signal. I have tried re installing the drivers, went back to version 5.2.4 drivers, still no go. I spent some time with the USA Decklink phone support and they can’t figure it out.

The decklink control panel says that the downconversion is turned off, but it still will only output an SD signal. I tried trashing the prefs for the control panel as well. Also repaired permissions.

I loaded up a new project in Uncompressed HD 8 bit and pulled in a finished piece and it still was downconverting.

Any ideas? Do I have a bad card? Hope not I have a huge editing project ready to take off early next week.

    Thanks,

PCI-X 133 slot is Seritek SATA controller
    PCI-X 100 is Decklink HD
PCI is ATTO 2 GB FC card

It was working with this config until day before yesterday.

    is the atto controlle PCI-X?

try to switch the Seritek and Decklink and the automatic downconversion will go away

NB The slot 4 is bit of a sqeeze for Decklink HD pro but possible at least I managed!

    Kaspar,

Thanks for the suggestion. It worked. The ATTO card must have slowed the Decklink HD card down. Not it is working no problem.

Well the problem is back. After pulling the cards and changing the order so that the Decklink HD was in the PCI-X 133 slot it worked fine.

Now today when I came in, no go on the HD video output. I can do a downconverted SD video, but not HD.

Could my card be bad? This is driving me nuts.
