I agree with Joe. I think a simple (time*x) expression on whatever color parameter you are using will do the trick.

It was probably done in a 3D program. You could achieve something similar using Element 3D in After Effects.

They may be set to “Rove Across Time”. So if you move the first or last keyframe (which shouldn’t be round), the round ones in the middle should adjust to keep the animation the same.

I would look for stock footage of a tree branch with an alpha channel. No reason it needs to be 3D. Or go out on a bright day and shoot tree branch against the sky (make sure the sky exposed higher than the branch, which shouldn’t be tough). Then you can luma key out the sky and use the footage as your gobo.

Clicking “Editing” resets your workspace to Adobe’s premade Editing workspace. You want to click on the preset you saved as your custom workspace, which looks to be “2016 Worspace” in the second screenshot you posted.

You can’t use plugins in After Effects to just drag and drop and make your video better. You need to understand the basics of After Effects and then have a goal of what you want to create. If you need a plugin to achieve that, then purchase it and learn how to utilize it. Often times though, you can achieve what you need with the native tools inside of After Effects.

May 6, 2016 at 8:38 pm in reply to: Atter Effects’ timeline’ style

The very first thing shown in the video is how to create the timeline graphic using shape layers with the repeater function. You could also create your own variation of a timeline in Photoshop or Illustrator and import it if you want. I guess I’m confused too on what you specifically need to know that isn’t shown already in the tutorial?

  • Could you give more specific export settings and post a screenshot of these horizontal lines? It sounds like you may be exporting interlaced video?

If you use ProRes (or another “lossless” codec) as an intermediate codec, you will experience virtually no quality loss for several exports going between the two programs.

There is no plug-in for this, but there is probably an After Effects template you could purchase that has some similar effects.

It looks best when done manually though. It might take a little time, but once you break down the different effects and start layering them on, it’s not too bad.
