What type of text animations are you looking for? I don’t know of any off the top of my head but you can check FX Factory and see if they have any plugins you’d be interested in.

I believe you are looking for the audio spectrum effect.

  • I make most of my number counting graphics using expressions. Dan Ebbert has some very handy ones like this or this. It may look intimidating at first, but if you look at the code you can see where to change it to fit your needs. Once you understand them, they become very powerful.

  • If possible, blow out the sky while keeping the actor (and his shirt) properly exposed. Then use the Extract effect to key out the highlights. Of course you may need a pretty big setup to achieve this using silks and/or flags. Not sure what the budget is for your shoot and how feasible that would be be for you.

You could rotoscope the actor using masks or the rotobrush, but if the actor’s shirt is blending with the sky, that would be incredibly tedious.

As far as effects go, this is a pretty basic intro. Mostly transitioning the text on with blurs and opacity keyframes. Some particles may have been added to some of the shots or they could’ve been shot live. The reason this intro looks so good is they have great footage, great editing, great color correction, and great music that all work together. There are no presets to achieve this (just read the names in the credits and you’ll see some of the most talented people in the industry were involved in this show).

My only guess is they had trouble with spammers from V*deoH*ve trying to sell their stuff here?

I agree. It’s probably a complex template that is very heavy on effects, blurs, etc that can really drive up the render time.

What effects do you have in your composition?

It happens very occasionally to me. I’m on a Mac and I simply click to open a new program in the dock (VLC Player for example), and it immediately unfreezes. You must click an unopened program; one that is already opened won’t work. Very weird bug. Hope this “fix” works for you.

Do you have your view set to “Active Camera” instead of “Front”?
