  • Wow, Shane! Thanks for the helpful responses, insight and suggestions (and that you weren’t scolding me with your responses. I know much of the Media 101 tech aspects of the business are missing from my background which is mainly the creative/artistic side.) This is a VERY helpful resource and I really appreciate your help.
    Thank you!

  • The clips say “PHOTO – JPEG” in the compressor column of the project Browser. When the clips were downloaded they were labeled “HD MOV (MPEG)”. I also have another version available labeled “HD MP4 (H.264)”. The H.264 version is a substantially smaller file size, so I thought the larger file would be a higher quality clip. The MOV made me think it was a Quicktime file, compatible with FCP.

  • How do you determine the codec of a file? I looked on line but suggestions are to download an analyzing program. I’d rather not do this to keep my system clean.
There are no photo stills. There are some special effects backgrounds with matt filters on them. I can render bit by bit and complete the render task, but I have not been able to render entire batches in their entirety. I worked through it but it was a hassle to sit and milk it small percentages at a time.

Disregard—this was a sequence timing issue from default and original sequence. When I made the new sequence with different sequence time settings it threw off the timeline timing, therefore key frame settings too—-pilot error!!! “CRASH!!!”

I’m still curious how to trash preferences though if anyone knows.

  • I turned off all other programs on my computer.
I output the project with only still photos as place-holders in the video window frames, as well as making simple data changes like personalizing the text so the only variable I was changing was eliminating the big video files.
It output in 1-1/2 hours–successful and clean.
I suspect the video files are way too big.
The videos are full-version Quicktime Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) files (as I mentioned they are 1.7GB – 3.4GB).
They do not need to be this big as I could chop them down and output them into a 45 second time length (they are 1:35 – 7:30 minutes). I just used the complete videos for convenience since I already had those FCP completed video files.

For the After Effects settings in the render que:
Quicktime format is the setting on the first box to open—no changes, that’s the default for me.
On the 2nd Render setting box that pops up I change the setting from animated to Apple ProRes 422 (HQ. I make no other changes, except for the videos (not this time with the photos) I did check the audio box and make that 48.
I then select my destination setting as needed.
    And I then hit Render.
With the videos the process crashed with that error message after 2-1/2 hours when it was going to take 75 hours. With the photo placeholders it took 1-1/2 hours and was success.
Should I re-output the videos in a different format using FCP (shortening them to 45 seconds)and use them ONLY as effects files for this project? Are there suggested setting that are different from the ones I listed above for the render que output process?

  • Hi Dave. You’re everywhere! Thanks for responding.
My OS system is Mac 10.7.5
The After Effects CS6 version is 11.0.4

I will be testing the program template with no media, with other media and I did recently output an AE project with no problem. I will get back in “the lab” and work on a few potion recipes.

  • Thanks guys for responding. I’ve found the project to be too much for my understanding. As you mentioned Derek, camera keyframes elimination is the issue not just deleting elements and that’s just something of which I have no understanding. I consulted with Video Blocks who were eager to help but said it was a very complex, advanced and time consuming procedure—like rebuilding the entire project. Hiring someone is just not feasible either.
    Thanks for responding guys.

  • Thanks Dave. I’ve never heard of this judder.
What I get from your suggestion is I should try something like this:

slow down the rate of the scrolling photo sequence, output it and then speed it back up in a new timeline so I maintain the same time length—vis versa—or something like that.
I tried creating it in Adobe After Effects too and I still have the same problem.
I can test it with an existing sequence or .MOV file by speeding/slowing it down.

  • Thanks folks for the help by providing a variety of detailed suggestions. I finally got it resolved–using web-building widgets suitable for the specific purpose. However, I did learn about the video looping process and GIFs, so it was a learning opportunity.
    Again, thank you!

  • “motion picture film coming thru the gate of a projector/viewer.” This—this is what I’m trying to do. No Muybridge old effect—-just have a feature that shows I am in film/video—and the old film rolling across the website with single photos showing different examples of my work would demonstrate that in a “kitchy” way.

There is an embed code below (one is the embed and the other a link) that is supposed to correspond to an image example. I hope it shows up when I post this. It is of 5 still images however, think of it being perhaps 30-40 images connected side by side moving across the website like the frames of film as it unrolls from the spool into the projector.
Thanks for your interest to help, gents/folks.
