May 16, 2014 at 1:47 am in reply to: FCP 7 Video Clips Playing in TImeline that are not in the Timeline at that position—-Solution?Problem solved—-I had to create a new sequence and copy everything but the corrupted clips into it. THe bad ones I reset those in the original clips and loaded those as new. It was a bit of extra work—but nothing else would work. I went back through dozens of autosaved project copies and they all had the corruptions—-and they were not there before the electrical issue.
Thanks for the support and help. Calm demeanor in a disaster really helps with resolution.

Yes—trashed preferences. I have not cleared trash nor restarted the computer. I believe that is not necessary. Just reopened FCP and the project in question.

Thanks Gentlemen for your speedy responses and help.
I converted the clips using MPEG Slipstream in the Apple Pro Rez 422 HQ format and they play nicely and smooth in Quicktime and are not all that large (ready for a FCP timeline now).
This is the solution I was looking for. I have to look at that 4K format setting on the GoPro Hero3 camera for increased quality—thanks for making me aware of that too.
The Cow is a great resource of professionals who really know their stuff and have compassion to help those not as well versed in the industry.
Thank you all again!

Thanks for keeping at this to help me Dave.
THe resolutions are all from the original HVX 200 clip info and from the GoPro formatting info as well. My output is of no great concern. THis project is to go to Youtube for publicity. Although I have done so much in television that it might be good to keep the formatting to that so I can use the footage in the future for television as well. That format was 1920 x 1080 29.97. (the GoPro seems like it is recording in 4 x 3 but I hear double HD quality so you can zoom-in and still have great HD quality).
Is this enough info?
What do you suggest?

Of course—-jamming the misfit sizes where ever I go!
The original GoPro of 1920 x 1440 is the biggest I can shoot so I can crop and reframe for composition. However, the other format is what I use when I combine footage with my HVX-200 (it comes in as compressor DVCPRO HD 1080i60 and frame size: 1280 x 1080). Although I am not combining footage in this one—all GoPro.
And I definitely don’t need to fit mis-sized pegs for this. What do you suggest?

December 16, 2013 at 3:19 pm in reply to: MPEG Streamclip Formatting & Watermark IssuesTHanks for the response.
The video watermark: Created with Flip4Mac WMV Demo
Below that it says: https://www.Flip4Mac.com
The audio watermark repeats the following every 20 seconds or so: “This is a demonstration of Flip4Mac”As for the longer WMV files, I cannot buy another editing program like Premiere. I have to stick with FCP, my original investment. I’ve contacted MPEG Streamclip about this over a week ago too but they seem to be unresponsive with inquiries. If I have to buy a cheap conversion program I can do that. I also wondered about processing them through FCP chopping them down and then sending them through the free MPEG Streamclip program—or does that mess up the conversion formatting?
The WMV files probably can’t be resent—getting these was a big enough hassle. I also see that MPEG Streamclip does not convert WMV files (it is not on their list), however, I don’t think they all are in WMV format.

December 11, 2013 at 8:02 pm in reply to: FCP (7.0.4) Message “Out of Memory”—Far From it & Project Takes 23 minutes to Open–CRAZY!Do you mean for me to import the long files into FCP7 and output them direct (and forget going through MPEG Streamclip)? I would be guessing at my output format settings, though this is worth a try.

December 11, 2013 at 10:20 am in reply to: FCP (7.0.4) Message “Out of Memory”—Far From it & Project Takes 23 minutes to Open–CRAZY!What is the best/most efficient format to use when converting the GoPro files for use in my projects? I have been converting them to Apple ProRez (HQ) because that is what we use for our output to television–and the files are coming back HUGE!—using up substantial harddrive space.
I have fast action in the videos so I want to make sure I maintain clarity and resolution.

December 11, 2013 at 2:16 am in reply to: FCP (7.0.4) Message “Out of Memory”—Far From it & Project Takes 23 minutes to Open–CRAZY!I have been working with MPEG Streamclip to convert the GoPro and other HD files now. The GoPro files work fine. However, the other ones from Germany always come through with a video/audio watermark. Here is an example of the file name:
Gopro_Christian_1920x1440_30fps_part_1
It is 4.7 GB (in wmv format) and runs 30:53 in length. There is another one that runs 43:39 in length.
I wonder if they are just too long for the free version, as the shorter ones of mine are all free of the watermark.
I cannot output the video with the clips associated to the project as is (I need to convert them with MPEG Streamcip first)—–the disk full problem still exists. I cannot output in Quicktime nor Compressor—-they always fail.
Any ideas?
