January 6, 2010 at 5:02 pm in reply to: FCP video output Directions for Youtube—H.264Thanks for the detailed directions. Much of it I don’t recognize or understand, but I figure I will when I get in and start exploring the settings. What am I going in through—Quicktime or Quicktime Conversion?

Thanks for your help. After I posted the question I disconnected the harddrives from the NITRO firewire 800 hub and plugged directly into the computer. Problem solved—rendering and processing fast & fine. This is the first time I’ve had problems with squeezing data through the hub.

October 30, 2009 at 4:35 pm in reply to: LaCie Terabyte Harddrive not Opening—Terminal Rainbow Ball–Help? Thanks guys for all your input. I bought a new harddrive and thought I would switch cases as has happened before—but I asked a service tech to look it over first. He got nothing from it. We both thought it seemed like a HD failure. So, I went to a data recovery company and left it with them to evaluate. Too little sleep and too many future project clips to lose. The noises from the drive started to concern me too—and parts rattling around inside. I think one of the project workers dropped it while they were using it (as the dropped it while I was helping with the project resurrection last night too).
I’ll pst a final message to keep the community up on diagnosis for future reference.
Thanks again for all your help and support. Cow is a great community!!

October 30, 2009 at 5:02 am in reply to: LaCie Terabyte Harddrive not Opening—Terminal Rainbow Ball–Help?Tried Disk Warrior and a message comes up “A disk malfunction occurs while writing the replacement directory to the disk (name of disk).
I have tried transferring one clip at a time to another harddrive—no success. The clips all get about 10% into it and never get any further, then an error message comes up after a while.
So I don’t even seem able to save the data at this time.
My career is over.

September 22, 2009 at 7:52 pm in reply to: Outputing FCP files to Compatible PC formats—requested in .mp4 Format?I just talked with him—he just wants a compatible format to use with his PC system (.mp4 is what he has been familiar with). He is using Sony Vega Platinum version 9 for software. What will keep the files as high a quality as possible and still be compatible?
Thanks for your input.

I’ll have to look into how to do that, as I don’t know what that is or how to do it. I assume it is in the FCP help files.
Thanks for your response. It is wierd. I succeeded with my movie this time—only because the audio (dolby) file was successful, so I only did the MPEG video file. The Batch monitor window did not crash & close this time (as it has for all my projects—but the compressor program continues to process). It continued compressing & batch monitoring the entire time successfully. It seems to be a combination problem that only worked withthtat one project when both audio & video were being processed. I have reinstalled the program 2 times before a while back when I first started having this problem, but I realized it was only affecting the batch monitor and not the compressor.
I will, however, look into how to make a reference movie.

They are .mov files.
I am editing on a G-4 Powerbook and using 10 LaCie external harddrives for my data all linked by an 8-port NITRO AV professional Firewire 800 hub. So, the data only has to flow through one other harddrive and the port, at the most, to get to my computer.
I have been able to cut out a few video frames (leaving the audio tracks intact) and export one of the clips as a .mov file and it worked fine (just missing a few video frames). Continuity of audio was the important part. Cut-a-ways can fill. So, something is happening to the files in storage.
The harddrive is rather full, but I have been told I can fill them up without problems. For the LaCie 1-Terabyte harddrive, there is 2.9 GB space remaining.Any ideas?
