that´s not correct if he has the MXF4MAC-plugin installed. then you could have native MXF within FCP.

@George: are there any other AVID-Codecs that are installed on your mac? how did you import the MXF to FCP? are you using the MXF-plugin?

Hi Beau,
the audio-input of your VO-tool is hooked to audio input 2, so if your input is on channel 1 of your audio-hardware it wont be recored.

please check your audio-configuration within FCP as well.

hi chadd,
you have a similar possibility with blu-ray as with DVD SP.

you can have a pause infinitely on BD as well – but that´s not possible with encore! you need to use scenarist for that or another (professional) solution.

but the problem that you´ve got could be a encore-bug! you haven´t told us which version you use, so it would be good to do so!

CS3 is a big, big mess – CS4 is better, CS5 is a lot better, but not a final state of what you like it to be!

if you just need a auto-start-BD, that will start you film straight away, that wouldn´t be so difficult to create.

1. export your HD-film as self-contained quicktime mov
2. create a BD-encoding-preset in compressor using H264 for blu-ray, 20-25MBit and NO 2-pass encoding and AC-3 dolby digital
3. encode your assets
4. start encore CS4, create a new project with h264 and dolby settings and import the assets (that could take a while)
5. create a new timeline by clrl-klick on the projects-tab and drag/drop your assets into it. set your chapter-points in the timeline.
6. klick on the DISK-symbol in the flow-chart-tab and select your timeline as first-play within your properties-tab
7. go to built-tab, select format blu-ray, and output blu-ray-folder, set destination and create your disk.
8. press built-button

that was the quick overview what to do. now it´s up to you.

Michael,
a really good choice on downscaling (and upscaling especially for 1440-formats) is bitvice purifier.

I would recommend it to use for all the processes. I figured out, that MPEG Streamclip is doing no good job on downscaling especially from HDV and other 1440-formats.

Streamclip is doing quite a good job (quick and dirty), but bitvice is doing it a lot better.

it doesn´t matter if it is interlaced or progressive as well.

Hi Alex,
if you need to playback your stuff on your EX-cam it might be possible with the XDCAM-exporter out of FCP that will be installed with Sony XDCAM-Software.

you need to set your audio-routing to 2 channel MONO instead of stereo otherwise the export-dialogue wont open, and be sure your sequenz is a XDCAM-EX-sequenze.

so you need go to file>export>Sony XDCAM and your Sony Export-Window will be openend.

Format needs to be MP4 (XDCAM EX).

Hi Chris,
as far as I know Encore wouldn´t allow you to create BOV (button over video) as it is allowed within DVD-specs, it will only be possible within your menus.

if you would like to do real BOV I would suggest to use apple DVD Studio Pro. with it it´s pretty simple to create those BOV as you need to have.

one thing you need to know:
I have figured out, that BOV needs a refresh at approx. every 30sek- 1min. otherwise it wont be possible to hit the button – that´s my experince with it.

you can use DVD AfterEdit ME to check your DDP-imge-files.

have you recieved an Eclipse-Error-Log from the replicator? that would be good.
