if you are importing H264 into encore it will take a bit of time to do so, as it´s creating some metadata while importing.

so go and have a coffee or a draft, or whatever – and after a while (could be a longer while) you can work with encore again.

another important issue:

if you don´t burn your DVD as UDF-format it wont match the DVD-specs and wont be played within all DVD-players.

how did you burn all thouse medias? from encore? from any other software?

of course you need to have interlaced material for your encoding – if the orignal have been interlaced material, too.

there could be more than one issue, why you might see lines on screen. you have to be carefully while setting up your encoder – never use automatic field-detection, they could fail.

and you might thing about downscaling your HD-material before you start encoding.

hi mary,
this is 100% OK, because I guess you are working with interlaced material.

AVID maybe wont output the fields, so you will see only one field progressivly – but there are two fields, so your quicktime-file is really fine.

if you are bothering with quicktime, you can turn on the deinterlacing quicktime-output.

to do so you need to open your video within quicktime and turn cmd-j (on mac) on pc it might be ctrl-j.

then select video track, select your visual settings and check the deinterlace-checkbox.

right now you wont see the interlaced-artefacts anymore, and then save your quicktime-file.

NOTE: if you give this filme to someone else for broadcast for example, the deinterlacer needs to be off, otherwise there could be problems with your film.

I wouldn´t advice to use G standart conversion-plugin, as it will blur the picture.

if you use compressor working with frame-control, it´ll will have a lot sharper results.

hi bryan,
maybe your project-settings have been incorrect. maybe you´ve choosen transcoding settings PCM audio, so all audio will be transcoded to PCM.

if so, you need to create a complete new project, because you can´t reset the project-transcoding-settings (as far as I remember).

the easiest way to go is to create a disk-image, and then burn it 6 times with a DVD-burning-programm like toast (mac) or nero (PC).

I guess you´ve got all menu-layers (buttons) in one PSD-file, that wouldn´t work!

you need to create several different PSD-files for the menus. could you please upload your PSD-file and send me the link, so I could have a look and change it for you, so you could get an idea how it works.

sorry, I meant it wont be slow navigation, but you need to create invisible, auto-activated buttons for next/previous option.

and it´s a bit of work to do.

but it´s possible – I previously confound it with layered menus where audio is not possible and navigation is very slow.

within professional bd-authrorings you can create a so called button-group and that could contain several buttons that you can turn on or off, depending on which button you would like to see or not.

it would be possible to create menus like this with encore CS5, but not in that way as a prof. BD-author would expect normally as encore is very limited.
