encore didn´t work with multi-chanel PCM audio, only stereo is supported. if you need high es audio and you have bootcamp running please try using EasyBD from DVD Logics, it could handle all high res audio-formats incl. uncompressed multichanel PCM.

if you need multichanel audio for BD, you can create a generic dolby digital setting with bitrates up to 640kbit/s to use it with encore.

H264 has a better picture-quality than MPEG2HD especially and a lot advantages according to bitrates and discspace on the optical disk.

but be awared, if you´ll create motion-menus you need to encode them to MPEG2HD, the rest of the clips could be trancoded to H264.

this is not really possible with encore. you need to extend it´s capability.

if you are working on mac, you could use blustreak tracer to do this.

looping menus is quite simple, but you need to care, that audio and video have the same duration, so you need to edit your video in premiere and cut your audio to the dedicated duration.

allways take care of first/last frame of the looping sequenz, they should be the same shot and the first frame should be your last frame+1 so you will have a real nice looping menu at the looping-position.

the difference is quite easy to explain:

AVC professional have no AVC-intra-support, while broadcast have.

AVC-intra is a professional broadcast-format developed by panasonic.

I´ve figured out your problem!

the main (remaining) problem is the VBV. they had problems with it within their settings with reference 2.1 as well, if you use settings besides the presets.

I´ll sent a bug-report to stefan, I´m in close contact to/with mainconcept.

workflow would be:

1. set your bitrates
2. go to advanced settings and klick into the checkbox to force bitrate buffer lenth to 1 sec. you´ll see, the bytes within bitrate-buffer will change
3. encode

then you can use the file with encore.

just tested with an H264 1080i50-file.

I tested encore CS5 with reference 1080i50 H264-elementary streams this morning and the have been working fine. I´m sure it will work with NTSC-framerates as well.

I´m quite sure that your project-settings wont match your h264-files (framerate/picture-size). in that case encore will allways transcode your files.

reference encoded H264-files will be accepted within encore. there is only one exeption – menus.

menus allways will be transcoded to MPEG2HD. that´s a bit weared, I know – but that´s the way adobe has programmed encore.

so you can import H264 for all kind of films exepted your menus. to get the best quality for menus you should import a PSd-file and a quicktime-movie for your moving background.

hey andrea,
there are several reasons why you BD wont play on standalon-players.

– bad media
– to high bitrate
– standalone player can´t playback BD-R

I´ve created a lot BDs using adobe encore – also BDs that has gone to replication – they are all working fine.

I guess it´s depending on your encore-version. I have been using CS4 or CS5 and I know encore CS3 is a big, big mess…

I also would like to advice to use high quality media like verbatim or tayo juden.

habe you burned from within encore? if you burned these BDs with another burning-programm you might use the wrong file-format as well.

Blu-ray needs to have the UDF2.5-format.

I wouldn´t do this as you loose 1/2 picture-informations as it needs be de-interlaced.

progressive is only interesting if you need to produce a DVD for computers only, and they can also do a deinterlacing.

we are still broadcasting interlaced 1080i60 for US and 1080i50 for europe. I know the europeen roadmap from EBU (europeen broadcasting union) has declared they want to switch to 1080p50 broadcasting within the next 10 years – so you still have time to think about it! 😉
