if you´ve created a valid 5.1-DVD-AC3-file it could also be used for blu-ray without transcoding.

If your project-transcoding-settings set to dolby digital for audio, everything should be fine and your audio wint be transcoded.

hey pete,
there are several issues with encore and adobe is not going to fix it, or extend it´s features the way BD could work.

I´ve seen you are working on MAC (as I do, too), there is no playback-solution on mac, as apple (in person steve jobs) does not like blu-ray and especially the entire encryption.

acording to playlists technically a blu-ray works totally different than DVD, and adobe didn´t implement blu-ray-playlists very clever into encore.

as you didn´t show your programming, we all just could just look into glas ball.

maybe there is some strange programming in your programming as well – who knows.

I could only underline what Eric said.

DVD SP is much more reliable and has more advanced feature than encore. at this point you can still use it. maybe apple will come up and show us something new (*ironic-mode on*) awsome, innovative (ironic-mode off*) DVD/BD-application besides FCP X. ha, ha….

if you really need to go the Blu-ray way, you might look at stuff from DVD Logics, if you haven´t got a big budget or rovi (formally known as sonic) or netblender (now sony) if you have.

why deviding your sequenz into 5-6 clips? there is no real reason to do so.

just create ONE single film and set individual chapter-markers for the different parts of it, so the customer could decide which part he like to see.

if you have mostly a duration of 60-90min. HD-material, that will fit onto blu ray 25GB if you are using H264 with target-bitrate 20MBit.

if the customer have a dedicated BD-player or a certified BD-playback-software, they will be able to skip through all chapters.

this – indeed is not possible with freeware-players.

my personal thought about this: forget about DVD – go the BD-way, so you´ll be on the path of future. – DVD will probably stay for the next 5 years, than it´ll be gone.

the most easy way is to save your previously created BD-project as a new projectfile then set the project-settings to DVD and start muxing straight away.

so you´ll get a DVD from your BD-project, but I would prefer DVD Studio Pro to create DVD – much more capable then encore.

stay at 23.98 for both media, Blu-ray and DVD, so you´ll be fine with both.

your 23.98-film will be encoded to 29.98 NDF (non dropped frames)NTSC for DVD incl. the requred pulldown, so it´ll will match perfectly.

1080p23.98 will work on blu-ray without any changes, as 108p23.98 is part of the BD-specs.

there are only two possibilities to watch HD-content on computers:

1.) as file-format (MOV/AVI/MP4/WMV, or whatever)
2.) created as Blu-ray disc with a blu-ray-playback software

the old format HD DVD was killed by blu-ray aprox 3-4 years ago during the HD-format-war.

so the only way to watch a BD or a BD-folder on computer is to buy specific software like arcsoft theater or winsoft player.

as steve jobs didn´t like blu-ray, apple never released a software-BD-player for mac os.

so these are the two options that you have, no more, no less.

if your customer recommending an HD-film on disc – blu-ray is the only way to go, and your customer needs to live with it.
