  • Venting frustration, alternative products for Blu-ray + DVD

I’ve been struggling with Encore CS5 version 5.1.0.342

IMO it is not very intuitive to say the least. From other posts here at the COW, it seems that Chapter Playlists and Preview don’t work with Blu-ray. I only learned this the hard way, after burning several coasters…

Monitor playback will often freeze the video while happily playing the audio.

I get so many spinning beach balls of death that it boggles my mind.

    Here are my system specs:

    MacPro 4,1
    8 cores x 2.26 Ghz
    32 GB Ram
    Nvidia Quadro 4000
    3 Velociraptor drives in a RAID 0

I’ve had no issues with Premiere Pro, FCP, Photoshop, etc.

So I’m frustrated to the point of thinking about buying an alternative. Are there any solutions for these bugs? What are some alternatives?

I would be ashamed to have my name appear on the credits for this program.

    Thanks.

    hey pete,
there are several issues with encore and adobe is not going to fix it, or extend it´s features the way BD could work.

I´ve seen you are working on MAC (as I do, too), there is no playback-solution on mac, as apple (in person steve jobs) does not like blu-ray and especially the entire encryption.

acording to playlists technically a blu-ray works totally different than DVD, and adobe didn´t implement blu-ray-playlists very clever into encore.

as you didn´t show your programming, we all just could just look into glas ball.

maybe there is some strange programming in your programming as well – who knows.

    cheers

I work on PC and it still sucks. Very high maintenance and buggy. Would love a replacement that actually works.

There is a blu ray player for Mac.

    https://www.macblurayplayer.com/

There is also the new version of VLC which has some bluray support as well.

As to encore, it’s not a good solution for anything but one off discs. If you want to make a fully compatible mass produced disc, you need a good author with real bd authoring software (scenarist, Bluprint or maybe do studio). None of the prosumer type solutions are usable in the way that DVD studio pro was before.

    juan,
forget about macbluray-player, as the standart is not fully supported – in fact no IG-graphics working, so it´s absolutly useless if you would like to check BD-programming.

    @steve:
if you would like to have a full-spec-authoring-tool you might look at DVD-Logics.

they have a more easy Solution called EasyBD and a professional (full-spec) solution BDEditor.

both are at real good price-target.

    cheers
